Oklahoma City Flooding – the Next Nashville?

Flash Flooding, Opryland

Oklahoma City is dealing with a big problem: major flash flooding. Six inches of rain have fallen in just three hours – leading to submerged cars and roads completely under water.

The pictures look eerily familiar to another recent flood: the Nashville flooding a little over a month ago that caused the Cumberland River and all the waterways it fed to rise to record levels and killed 29 people. Cars were underwater, buildings floated down the freeway and monuments were destroyed in the flooding in Nashville. The Opryland Hotel’s first floor filled with water, destroying the entire bottom floor. Residents are far from recovery in the Nashville floods.

The Oklahoma City forecast calls for rain today, tomorrow and possibly Wednesday, so the water levels aren’t going to go down anytime soon.

See road closings on NewsOK.com for information on road conditions. Authorities are asking people to stay home if at all possible due to closed roads and heavy traffic on roads that are passable. Motorists should never try to drive through water they cannot see the bottom of.
