If you live in Maine, you will be breaking the law if you do not take a shotgun with you to church, for protection, in case of an attack by Native Americans. The law may be old and out-of-date, but it is still on the books. It is also illegal to step out of an airplane that is still in flight. Welcome to the strange world of Maine laws.

You better be certain you never leave your Christmas decorations up after January 14 each year, because of another strange Maine law. You might be fined if you do.

According to another strange Maine law, nobody can sell a car on Sundays, unless the vehicle comes equipped with plumbing.

You also will be breaking the law in Maine if you catch lobsters with your bare hands.

In Augusta, you must never stroll down the street while playing a violin.

In Biddeford, you will be breaking the law if you gamble at an airport. The law also prohibits anyone from being intoxicated, disorderly, or a nuisance at an airport. People are also prohibited at a Biddeford airport from carrying any firearm, weapon, or explosive device, unless they are law enforcement officers, or if the guns are encased sporting guns that are being shipped by air.

It is also illegal to roller skate on a sidewalk in Biddeford. The law also prohibits using bicycles on a sidewalk. A fine of up to $10 may be imposed for those who violate the law.

In Ellsworth any city sign ordinances that are posted that conflict with Federal law will take precedence over the federal law, if there is a conflict between the two. The city ordinance will also take precedence over the Federal law, even if the city ordinance is stricter. The Ellsworth law also applies to a city ordinance that would conflict with a state law.

In Freeport, mercury thermometers may not be sold. The law does may an exception, however, for the sale of the thermometers, with a prescription. It is also illegal in the city to spit from a second floor window.

The law was also created because of a concern over traffic safety problems caused by deer.

It is also illegal in Wells to place advertisements in cemeteries.
