New Hampshire Vacation Destinations

New Hampshire

Vacation ideas in New Hampshire sometimes lapse into the hidden areas of the prefrontal cortex. The facts are that New Hampshire is sometimes forgotten during the years when no Presidential primary is being held. This New England state offers much more than just the opportunity to meet every Presidential candidate with a personal handshake. Dixville Notch may be the most famous (or infamous) vacation destination in New Hampshire, but that hardly qualifies it as existing in a New England vacuum. Vacations plans to New Hampshire can mean everything from taking in the beautiful colors of fall foliage to visiting historic sites that played a part in the very creation of America.

The natural wonders of New Hampshire make for a scenic vacation destination. White Mountain National Forest is dominated by Mt. Washington, the highest mountain in New England. One of the most famous and oft-visited New Hampshire vacation destinations is no longer there, but is still worth the visit when you hit the White Mountains. The Old Man of the Mountain was a rock formation on the side of a mountain that slid away into the archives sometime between May 2 and May 3, 2003. An episode of The Simpsons was inspired by the loss of the Old Man of the Mountain and at least you still have that to look at. You’ll find opportunities for a camping vacation in the White Mountains as well as at Lake Winnipesaukee. A vacation to New Hampshire’s largest lake will result in your knowing exactly how to pronounce it as well as memories of fishing and scuba diving in the lake or hiking and snowshoeing in the nearby Ossipee and Sandwich mountains.

NASCAR racing and New Hampshire may not make an immediate connection when making plans for a vacation to the state, but the sounds and sights and nausea-inducing diesel smells at New Hampshire International Speedway can quickly change that. Races take place throughout the summer, but be aware that the big NASCAR events quickly sell out. Reserve spots for RV campers are available if you order before July 1.

The Enfield Shaker Museum pays tribute to New Hampshire’s Shaker heritage courtesy of the largest Shaker dwelling house ever built and a museum offering guide and self-guided tours. The surrounding community was found in 1792 and you will find employees dressed up in the clothing of that period and playing characters that portray Shaker history. The Shaker Museum offers vacation packages that include winter sports when it snows as well as a Day Camp for kids aged 5 to 10 during the summer.

You could enjoy an entire vacation in New Hampshire without leaving the city of Portsmouth. This city is home to the Strawberry Banke Museum which is one of the largest outdoor history museums in the state. You have not yet begun to enjoy Portsmouth until you’ve visited the home of Revolutionary War hero John Paul Jones. Let the kids enjoy the hands-on experience at the Children’s Museum of Portsmouth and enjoy a scenic cruise via tour boat up the Piscataqua River.

Your New Hampshire vacation awaits, so what are you waiting for? The turning of the colors of fall foliage?
