Never Peel a Potato by Hand Again

Salad Spinner

My first childhood memory involves using an old-fashion, skinny, potato peeler.

I was about 3-4 years old and I wanted to help my mother peel potatoes. She allowed me to help her and within just a few minutes I cut my finger with the potato peeler and my mother needed to bandage it up. As a 3-4 year old would do, I went to sit on my little rocking chair with my finger all bandaged up, consoling myself by rocking back and forth as I watched a Magilla Gorilla cartoon.

Up until a few months ago, I continued to use a potato peeler just like that same one which cut me as a child. Seldom did I cut myself with it again, but for those who are familiar with potato peelers such as that one, you know what a nuisance peeling a potato with such a small kitchen appliance can be.

With an old-fashion potato peeler it is hard to peel off all the skin of a potato. It takes quite a long time to diligently peel each potato.

It’s also very messy. After I clean each potato with the skin on first, I peel each wet potato. I think the potato being wet makes it more difficult to peel. It also makes it very messy, as I have these small, wet pieces of potato skin all over the kitchen counter, on the dish and stuck to the potato peeler. I try to clean up a little in-between my potato peeling.

My hands get very dirty from holding the wet, dirty potatoes as I peel each one. Often I’ll reach for a new paper towel to clean my hands as I go along.

As we get older arthritis sets in. I know because I suffer with it slightly. I’m now 54 years old and I must say that peeling a potato with an old-fashion potato peeler can be quite painful on my hands, as I press hard to try and get off every bit of potato skin.

My mother loved kitchen appliances – small and large. I inherited her love for kitchen appliances a bit.

Since my family loves potatoes, one of my small dreams in life was to buy myself an electric potato peeler to make my life easier.

I researched electric potato peelers online for quite sometime.

I kept seeing the one that looks like an old-fashion appliance in its own way. It looked like a metal number ‘7’ on a metal base. It electrically peeled one potato at a time by placing the potato in a standing up position on the front of the appliance and then the peeling section went around the potato in a circular motion. It peeled apples too.

There was something about that electric potato peeler that didn’t seem right to me. Maybe it didn’t appear strong enough and it looked like it would break easily.

Then on www.amazon.com I saw the Presto Peel a Meal Electric Peeler, model 02905.

First the brand name, Presto, caught my eye because my mother has had several Presto kitchen appliances in her lifetime and they were and still are extremely good, sturdy and reliable.

This Presto electric peeler is round and large, with a removable base and the cover is see-through, removable and it locks in place on both sides.

It’s FAST! It’s EASY! It’s NEAT!

Unlike the other individual electric peelers I had first seen, this Presto electric peeler peels up to 2 pounds in 1-4 minutes.

The Presto electric peeler peels potatoes, apples and carrots.

It can peel per load – 12 small potatoes, 6-8 medium size potatoes, 3 large potatoes (cut in half crosswise), 4-6 medium apples, or a single layer of carrots.

The only thing you may have to do is cut the potato, etc. a little to fit inside the barrel lengthwise.

It also comes with a salad spinner attachment. It quickly dries leafy vegetables.

All you need is the potatoes, apples and/or carrots you want to peel and 1 ¾ cups of water.

The see-through cover allows you to watch the progress of the peeling.

Cleaning and storing is simple.

It’s so easy to clean in hot, soapy water. Some of the washable parts are dishwasher safe.

The under base neatly stores the electric cord when not in use.

It’s attractive looking!

The Presto Peel a Meal Electric Peeler is white, with a light green cover and a light green on/off knob.

THE PRICE IS RIGHT!

On www.amazon.com The Presto Peel a Meal Electric Peeler ranges in price (including shipping) from: $27.90-$49.99.
