Natural Ways to Heal Burns

Cupboards, Natural Ways

No offense to grandmas throughout the world, but your home remedy is the worst solution to treat a burn. In fact, although it may ease the pain, butter could actually contaminate the burn. It’s funny, but often that is the first item many of reach for to soothe our burn.

Although butter is a no-no, there are many more natural ways to heal those nasty burns one experiences from fires, getting to close to an hot iron or forgetting the pot is hot and grabbing the handle.

Burns are a traumatic injury, some more than others. Most of us have experienced a burn of some degree while in the comfort of our own home. Fortunately, many of our less serious burn injuries can be treated by using items found in our cupboards. The more serious burns must be treated immediately by medical personnel. However, before we open our cupboards and refrigerator, let’s take a look at the different types of burns.

Burns are categorized or classified by degree. A first-degree burn occurs when the top layer of the skin is burned. This is the mildest of the three burn types. The skin will often take a reddish color and is painful to the touch. However, the skin is unbroken and can be treated at home. The next classification is a second-degree burn in which the skin is broken and will blister. A third-degree burn is the most serious type of burn in which surface skin and underlying tissue are destroyed.

More than likely, since some second-degree and all third-degree burns will require immediate medical attention, the natural ways to treat burns at home will focus on first -degree superficial burns.
