My New LG Chocolate VX8550 Cell Phone

Music Software, Palm Treo

For quite some time now, I am receiving promotional letters from Verizon to upgrade my cell phone. Since I was very happy with my old phone, I just didn’t feel like getting a new one and having to learn the ropes again. Where is my 21st century wireless attitude? Right? How am I going to keep up with all this technology if I don’t try the new things that are out in the market? So last week I received another letter from Verizon about an upgrade. I decided to go to their website, and look at the upgrades they were offering. I wanted to make sure that the phone I was getting, if I decided to get a new one, there wouldn’t be any extra charge for it. I just didn’t want to pay any extra money. I was happy with the plan which was sufficient for me.

After a few trials and tribulations, I got into the Verizon wireless website, which was quite slow. Maybe it was the time of the day, or they sent those promotional letters to everyone and everyone was trying to get on it.

I looked at a few of the new phones they had, like the Blackberry, Palm Treo, Motorola razor and so on. I decided on the LG Chocolate in Black Cherry. It looked very nice and quite sleek. I went on ahead and ordered it. That was Saturday June 28. Well, I received the phone on Tuesday July 1. I did not expect such an expedited delivery.

After I charged the battery, I started playing with it. I don’t bother reading the manual. Of course, if everything else fails, it would help to read it. I sat there and navigated around the commands, trying to put all my contact information in there. After a few minutes of trying to figure it out, I stopped because I got frustrated. It doesn’t take long for me to get frustrated. I would type the name of a contact and if I made a mistake I couldn’t figure out how to delete the typo. You see, this phone doesn’t have the tactile keys like any other phone. Everything is done with a circular wheel that you simply turn and navigates you through the menu, and touch keys, which actually vibrate when you touch them.

But let me tell you, as soon as I figured how to work it, I am loving it. It’s sleek looking, slim, beautiful color and very 21st century. On top of that my plan offers free back up, so I was able to download all my contact information in their website. Of course as with everything else you have to have a user id and a pin number to access the back up system. Now every time I need to add a new contact or delete an old one, I am able to do it in my computer and then update it in my cell phone automatically. And all that is done wireless. And there is more. I was able to download in my laptop free music software, Verizon Rhapsody, and listen to the music while I work on my novel, or when I am writing articles. I haven’t figured out yet how to download it in my cell, but I am sure one of these days I will be able to. There is a variety of songs and albums you can listen to. From Coldplay, to Rihana, to Usher, to Bruce Springsteen, to John Mayer, to Phil Collins, to Frank Sinatra.

This is quite exciting. I have to say that I have arrived in the 21st century.

Enjoy.
