Must-Have Items to Bring to Your Kids’ Outdoor Sports Games

Raincoats

Many kids love to play outdoor sports like baseball, softball, soccer, football and more. Their parents, grandparents and siblings love to head out to the game to watch them in action and to cheer them on. However, spending many hours outdoors for practices and games alike each week means that kids as well as their family are exposed to bugs, the elements and more while outside. There are a few “must have” items that every parent needs to pack to bring along to these outdoor events. These items can help to keep your child and the rest of the family comfortable, safe and healthy. Consider packing these items in a sports bag or storing them in your car:

Sunscreen: Most parents are well aware of the dangers of the sun’s rays. Harmful UV rays are able to penetrate through even the densest of clouds, so sunscreen with UV protection should be warn by everyone who spends time outdoors.

Sunglasses and Hats: While sunscreen can protect your skin from UV rays, UV rays can also harm your eyes. Consider investing in sunglasses that have UV protection for all members of the family. Hats can also offer additional protection to the face and eyes.

Bug Spray: Bugs, and especially biting and stinging insects, are common in many parts of the world. While they bites and stings can be bothersome an even painful, some insects can carry viruses that can make your family sick. Consider carrying bug spray with you at all times to keep bugs at bay.

Water: Most parents wouldn’t dream of venturing outdoors to a sporting event without bringing water for their child athlete. However, plenty of water should be carried with you at all times for every member of the family, regardless of the weather. Wind, excessive exposure to sun even in cold temperatures, and cooler weather alike can dehydrate your family. Younger family members are at greater risk to dehydration.

Snacks: Be sure to pack a few snacks to bring along to the sporting events. There are often delays with game start times as well as over-time and other factors that may mean you are outside and away from nourishment longer than you planned. If your child athlete is playing multiple games, he or she may need nourishment between events. Consider packing snacks that are less messy and that will not melt such as apples, granola bars and other similar snacks.

Waterproof Blanket: A waterproof blank is a necessity for sports parents to keep in the car. This blanket can be used by the team who sit on the sidelines during the break as well as by you or your other kids. The material can keep everyone dry on damp days, and it is easy to clean when it becomes dirty from grass, mud and more.

Umbrella and Raincoats: Your family is likely to be outdoors on some beautiful days, and umbrellas can provide you with an excellent source of shade to minimize sun exposure. While you may spend many beautiful days outside, there are sure to be a few rainy, damp days outside, too. With umbrellas and raincoats stored in the car, you will always be prepared for any weather.

Blanket: While a waterproof blanket is ideal for sitting on, you may want to carry an additional blanket in the car to wrap up in on cooler days. Keep in mind that a strong wind on open fields can create an even colder effect for you than what you might feel at home.

A well-prepared sports parent will have all of these items on-hand for all games and practices. Use this list to stock your own car and sports bag today.
