Mom’s Homemade Goulash

Goulash

Fall the perfect time to enjoy a Goulash dinner. Not only is it an economical dinner for the family, it is also delicious! My goulash recipe has been handed down to me from my mom but I have added a couple ingredients to it along the way. That is one nice thing about goulash; you can always add a different spice to give it a change of pace.

Here is my favorite Goulash recipe.

Mom’s Homemade Goulash

1 lbs elbow macaroni

2 lbs ground beef

3 teaspoons minced garlic

¼ cup chopped Vidalia onions

¼ cup chopped green peppers (optional)

½ teaspoon chili powder

2 large cans of stewed tomatoes with juice

1 small can tomato paste

1 small can tomato sauce

¼ teaspoon pepper

½ teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon brown sugar

1 cup sharp cheddar cheese (optional)

Brown the ground beef with garlic, onions and peppers. Drain the grease and set aside.

Bring water to boil for macaroni and cook until done. Drain and add to meat mixture in to a large bowl.

Add the chili powder, salt, pepper and brown sugar to mixture.

Stir in the stewed tomatoes, tomato paste and tomato sauce until mixed well.

Pour into a casserole dish. Bake at 300 for about 1 hour.

During the last 15 minutes, you can sprinkle sharp cheddar cheese on top.
