Milton Bradley, Lucky Ducks Game

Milton Bradley

Milton Bradley’s Lucky Ducks Game is one of those motorized games that my niece will plop out on the coffee table every now and then. She has had this game since she was about 2, and still the game works without flaw, and believe it or not, she managed to keep all of the ducks in the box, even though when she was younger she’d take them into the tub with her sometimes. It is obvious she loved this game enough to keep it all together for so many years.

What Is It About?

Lucky Ducks is all about teaching kids to memorize shapes and colors. Lucky Ducks is a matching game, and matching games are always fun. I even still enjoy a good challenging matching game every now and then… although Lucky Ducks won’t be challenging for adults, it can be pretty tough (yet fun) for children.

Basically the game is a plastic motorized game board that sits on a table. It is designed to look like a pond. For me though it’s more like a lazy river. You are to place the plastic ducks on the river and when you turn the game on the ducks go around and around in a circle. Players then pick the ducks up one at a time to try and match two ducks according to the shapes on their belly’s.

Each duck will have a shape on it, ranging from a star, circle, square, diamond and so on. The object of the game it to pick two ducks up and see if they match. If they do not, you have to put the duck back onto the game board to try again.

I remember as a kid not having cool matching games like Lucky Duck. Instead we had large playing cards which would be placed face down. We then had to find the matching cards to make a set. Lucky Ducks would have been suh-weet had it been around when I was a kid.

Our Use:

My niece who already knows the game quite well is actually pretty advanced when playing Lucky Ducks. She is able to pick up a duck, and no less than 2 or 3 guess later she has the second duck she needs to make a match.

Although I find this game to be far to easy for those ages 4-6, the game states that it is meant for children ages 3-6. I’d say after the age of 3 the game is basically a cinch, still though kids enjoy coming back to it to play it time and time again. So even though it is far to easy for a 5 or 6 year old, for some reason they will still enjoy playing it.

Overall:

Lucky Ducks is a fun game for younger children, not only will they enjoy it at the age of 3, but they will also enjoy coming back to the game time and time again, so in all honestly Lucky Ducks provides a few good solid years of fun game time for kids.

I definitely recommend it to parents with toddlers and young children because it teaches memory, shapes, and colors all in one. An educational fun game, you really can’t beat that.

Where To find:

Lucky Ducks can be found in nearly any toy store or super store. The price will vary anywhere from $15.00 to $20.00.
