Mike’s Bike Tours in Munich, Germany

Bike Tours, Tour Guide

When you go overseas to another country for the first time, it is hard as a tourist to know what things there are to do that you should spend your money on and is worth it and what is a waste of time and money. To combat this people seem to rely on what others say or reviews that they find on the internet.

I can definitely say that if you travel to Munich, Germany, one must do tour is Mike’s Bike tour, which is known as the most popular and entertaining site seeing tours located in Europe. I highly recommend this tour and after the tour was over for me, I knew I had to write an article on this company so others that travel to Germany can enjoy the overall experience also.

All we did to book the tour is go Mike’s Bike Tours website. I believe it cost us 24 Euros only. You can pay for the trip ahead of time by credit card or after the trip is over with cash or a cashier’s check. They then gave us a location in Munich, which was the Old Town Hall, where our meeting point was for the start of the tour. When we arrived we saw our tour guide and the bikes that we would be riding. The bikes were very nice, comfortable beach cruisers.

Our energy filled tour guide stood up in front of the group of approximately 20 people of all ages and did a short introduction about the tour that was ahead of us and the history of Munich and the company. Don’t worry English is spoken for the tour so you don’t have to know any German. He went on to tell us that Mike’s Bike Tours has been in business in Munich since 1994 and they also had another location in Amsterdam.

He introduced himself to us as Frankie and said that he is from Hawaii and comes to Munich to work during the summer and enjoy the peacefulness and beauty of the Munich area. Frankie said he has been a tour guide with the company since 2000. He explained to us that we were going to see a lot of amazing and historical places throughout the city so have our cameras ready. I was excited to start our adventure. He told us that the entire tour would take us about 4 hours, so we were definitely getting our money worth.

You might think that a 4 hour bike tour is something only for those people that are active and in shape. I was surprised to find out that it was not the least bit strenuous, and as long as you could ride a bike, no matter what age or size you were that you would have no problem going on this tour. It was a flat surface on smooth bike trails the majority of the way and you stopped a lot so that people could take pictures and so that the tour guide could go through some history and information on the buildings and places that you were seeing.

Along the way we passed by places like the National Theather (Opera House), the beautiful English Gardens, the Hofbrauhaus Beer Hall, Ludwig Strasses, Surfer’s Bridge, the Isar River and many other amazingly beautiful buildings and sites. I took so many pictures on this tour it was unbelievable. We also learned a lot about the history of Munich and specific buildings and areas we passed. I am a huge history buff, so I really enjoyed learning all that I could about the city.

About half way through the tour, we had a 45 minute break so that we could relax and have some lunch. The location for the break was in the English Gardens at a beer garden. The scenery in the area was just breathtaking. It was a very peaceful and relaxing spot to enjoy our lunch at and of course a nice cold great tasting German beer.

Overall, I had a blast on the tour. Frankie was very entertaining and was very knowledgeable about the things he explained to us. He had no probably answering all of our questions. He was very funny and energetic also and made the whole tour extra special. Like I said I took so many amazingly beautiful pictures of the buildings that we saw and scenery that we passed. It was very breathtaking and I would highly recommend this tour to people of all ages. You will be sure to have an amazing experience and also have some beautiful pictures of Munich.
