MidWest Lined Leather Work Gloves

Summer Work

Here in Alaska, our summer weather has been very unseasonably cold. June is typically our nicest and warmest month of the entire year, yet the average temperatures have been in the 50’s. When it rains, which it has been doing a fair amount, the temperatures feel even cooler.

Because of this, I was really enticed by a pair of lined leather work gloves that I found at my local Walmart store, which were on display in the gardening section. These MidWest Lined Leather Work Gloves are made of cowhide suede, and they were only available in one color, tan. The suede is a soft leather, and the lining is made of a plush pile lining, which looks like a faux sheepskin.

The gloves are intended to use for “snow shovels, construction, farm work, yard work, and other winter wear. It is no surprise why these were on display with the other, thinner “summer” work gloves! They come in sizes small, medium and large, and I always wear as size small and can say that these run true to size. And the price was definitely in my budget, only $6.84!! That seems like a very reasonable price for real lined leather gloves.

The MidWest Lined Leather Work Gloves are a bit bulkier than you would expect from summer type garden gloves, but if you have any heavy work to do, these are the gloves to buy. We have several sections of our 2 acre yard that have raspberry bushes, and we have a large area of wild rosehip bushes. If you know anything about raspberry and rose bushes, you know that they are very thorny, and you need more than a think garden glove when working with these types of plants. The MidWest Lined Leather Work Gloves work perfectly, they allow me some flexibility yet are thick enough to protect my hands from the sharp thorns.

Even when the weather is rainy, windy and cold, the MidWest Lined Leather Work Gloves keep my hands dry, but these gloves are not completely water proof. That little issue can be solved by spraying them with a protective coating that is generally used on leather boots, but it works to make these rain resistant. If you get them wet they are going to stay wet, so some weather proofing is a good idea, and will make these much more versatile.

I would say the MidWest Lined Leather Work Gloves are all season gloves, at least when you live in a climate like Alaska. We just never know what kind of weather will be thrown at us, and these gloves are appropriate for working in the garden on a cooler day, working with thorny bushes on any given day, and are warm enough for winter wear. These gloves are even warmer than some of my so-called “winter gloves”. For the price, you cannot go wrong. They are very well made, have been extremely durable, and are super inexpensive. What more could you want? Highly recommended.
