Midnight Sun: Edward’s Version of Twilight

Midnight Sun, Twilight the Movie

If you do not know by now what The Twilight Series is then you may have been under a rock over the past few years. Since the release of the first installment of the book series in 2005 the Twilight Phenomenon has grown into a massive, world wide obsession for many. Stephenie Meyer, the author of the book series partnered with Summit Entertainment and Twilight The Movie was soon created. The Twilight Movie was released in the USA on November 21st 2008. The movie quickly catapulted the stars of the film into the Hollywood limelight. Stars Robert Pattinson aka Edward Cullen and Kristen Stewart aka Bella Swann can now be found on thousands of magazine covers, have tons of fan websites and can not seem to step into the public eye without being swarmed by the paparazzi. My personal favorite fansite is www.hisgoldeneyes.com The 2nd, 3rd and 4th books of the Twilight Series will be brought to the screen as well by Summit Entertainment. The highly anticipated movie New Moon, the 2nd installment of the Twilight Series will be released in the USA on November 21st 2009.

Breaking Dawn is the last published installment of The Twilight Series. It left many fans wanting more and begging for another book. Unbeknownst to her many fans, Stephenie Meyer was indeed working on another book that was sure to quench the Twilight fans’ thirst. Midnight Sun: Edward’s Version of Twilight, was in the early stages of being written when it was illegally posted on the internet in August of 2008. She was hoping to give reader’s further insight into Edward’s head and add a new dimension to the Twilight story. The partial rough draft of Midnight Sun was quickly distributed throughout the web without the author’s knowledge or permission. In a statement posted on Stephenie Meyer’s website she explains where this leaves Midnight Sun. “My first feeling was that there was no way to continue. Writing isn’t like math; in math, two plus two always equals four no matter what your mood is like. With writing, the way you feel changes everything. If I tried to write Midnight Sun now, in my current frame of mind, James would probably win and all the Cullens would die, which wouldn’t dovetail too well with the original story. In any case, I feel too sad about what has happened to continue working on Midnight Sun, and so it is on hold indefinitely.”

On Stephenie’s website she talks about her struggle with the decision on how to deal with the leaked, partial rough draft. She realized that even commenting on the situation was only going to drive fans to look for the illegal posting. With this in mind and after a lot of thought she decided to post it on her website for fans to read. Fans were both excited and saddened with this news. They were excited to get a glimpse of Midnight Sun and saddened that it was put on hold indefinitely. Their sadness would not be long lived. In June of 2008 an official statement was released on StephenieMeyer.com stating due to an outrageous number of emails in support of Midnight Sun, she would in fact continue writing it and does plan on having it published. Though there has been no timeline given on when Midnight Sun will be published, fans are relieved to know that the project is no longer on hold.
