Michael Angelo’s Sausage Lasagna Review

Angelo, Lasagna, Sausage

Italian food is one of my favorites. While I love the taste of lasagna, I don’t always have the time to devote to making this great tasting dish. My alternative is to buy Michael Angelo’s Lasagna with Sausage.

Product Description

Michael Angelo’s Lasagna with Sausage is found in my grocers freezer section, and comes in a rectangular shaped box, weighing 38 ounces. The box has a small oval on the front that refers to the food as “Premium Quality” from Michael Angelo’s Gourmet Foods Family Recipes.

Since the product is frozen, it does not contain any preservatives. The box pictures a large slice of the product, which looks like your typical lasagna with wide noodles, tomato style sauce, ricotta and mozzarella cheese, with a generous topping of Italian sausage. It comes in an oven safe container that looks like it is made from cardboard.

One serving size of Michael Angelo’s Lasagna with Sausage is one cup, and the meal contains about 4.5 servings. Thoughts

I followed the directions exactly, which tell you to peel back the corner of the cardboard top in order to allow the lasagna to release moisture. You leave the rest of the lid on for the entire cooking time, which takes 50-60 minutes at 375 degrees. After one hour, the cheese on top of my lasagna was not totally melted, and it wasn’t hot enough, so I ended up baking it for an additional 30 minutes.

The directions say to let the lasagna sit for 5 minutes before serving, but I again had to let mine sit for about 10 minutes, because the meal was very runny. Letting it sit a bit longer did allow the Michael Angelo’s Lasagna with Sausage to set up some.

I was amazed at the large size of the Italian sausage! One piece was probably 1 1/2 – 2 inches in diameter! There is a generous amount of ricotta cheese in the meal, but I would have liked to see a little more of the mozzarella cheese. The red sauce was very tasty, with authentic Italian taste. Some of the noodles were more cooked than others were, but overall this was a good tasting frozen meal.

My husband liked the Michael Angelo’s Lasagna with Sausage more than I did, I had one piece, and he finished off the rest of the pan! Of course I like the taste of my own homemade recipe the best, but when I am in a hurry and don’t have the time to put together lasagna, then Michael Angelo’s makes a good substitute.
