It seems the Maytag repairman will never be lonely again with a steady stream of recalls to sustain him. After last year’s recall of 1.6 million refrigerators with faulty relay switches, the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Thursday another massive Maytag recall, this one involving dishwashers. The 1.7 recalled dishwashers have faulty heating elements that pose a fire risk. 12 fires have been reported in dishwashers subject to the recall, some causing serious property damage.

Maytag manufactured the recalled dishwashers for various label,s including Maytag, Amana, Jenn-Air, Admiral, Magic Chef, Performa by MaytagandCrosley. The recalled dishwashers have plastic tubs and serial numbers beginning with: NW39, NW40, NW41, NW42, NW43, NW44, NW45, NW46, NW47, NW48, NW49, NW50, NW51, NW52, NY01, NY02, NY03, NY04, NY05, NY06, NY07, NY08, NY09, NY10, NY11, NY12, NY13, NY14, NY15, NY16, NY17, NY18, NY19 or ending with C, JE, JG, JJ, JL, JN, JP, JR, JT, JV, JX, LA, LC, LE, LG, LJ, LL, LN, LP, LR, LT, LV, LX, NA, NC, NE, NG, NJ, NL, NN, NP, NR.
Instructions for Owners of Recalled Maytag Dishwashers
Because the recalled dishwashers pose a serious fire hazard, owners should disconnect the power supply immediately and cease using them. Maytag and the CPSC recommend that all users be informed of the fire risk.
Maytag will send a repairman to perform a free in-home repair, or recalled dishwasher owners may instead choose a rebate usable toward purchase of specified new dishwasher models.

It was last March that Maytag announced a voluntary recall of refrigerators after 41 instances of relay switches igniting. Like the recalled dishwashers, some of the refrigerator fires resulted in significant property damage.
In 2007, Maytag recalled its Neptune line of washing machines, also due to fire hazards. 250,000 units were involved in the 2007 Maytag recall.
46,000 Maytag refrigerators were also the subject of an August 2009 tag along recall to its March recall after receiving 23 additional reports of refrigerators catching fire.
