Marvel Movies Have Big Plans for the Hulk

Marvel Studios is starting Phase 2 of their roll out with “Iron Man 3″ in 2013, but there is a huge rumor that has popped up about Phase 3 involving The Hulk, a plan which won’t start until 2015. The way this works is that Phase 1 was a way to introduce the world to the heroes that would make up the”Avengers” team. Phase 1 included both “Iron Man” movies, “The Incredible Hulk,” “Thor,” “Captain America: The First Avenger,” and it all culminated with “The Avengers” in 2012.

Phase 2 will star with “Iron Man 2” and then continue on through “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Thor: The Dark World” and “Guardians of the Galaxy” before finishing off with “The Avengers 2” in 2015. That will then be where Marvel Studios starts to branch out more from The Avengers team and introduce more members of the Marvel universe.

Here are the rumors to what Marvel has planned so far for Phase 3.

“Ant-Man”

The first movie on tap is not a rumor, it is a fact, and it will be the first Phase 3 movie to come after “The Avengers 2.” Edgar Wright (“Shaun of the Dead”) will direct the movie and the rumors indicate that both Hank Pym (the original Ant-Man) and Scott Lang (the new Ant-Man) will both play a role in the movie. Pym has a strong connection with The Avengers in the comics, one of the founding members, and the husband of The Wasp, rumored to make her debut in “Iron Man 3.”

“Doctor Strange”

The last big rumor surrounded Doctor Strange, the “Sorcerer Supreme” of the Marvel Universe. This is a character Marvel has teased for a couple of years now, a former arrogant and narcissistic neurosurgeon who was involved in an auto accident that ruined his career. He set out to find his place in the world, proved himself to be a hero, and learned the mystic arts at the hands of an expert. Strange became the most powerful magician in the universe and should prove to be an entertaining character for a movie role.

“Planet Hulk”

Finally, the brand new rumor surrounds The Hulk. According to Latino-Review, a site that has a source that gave them some great reliable Marvel scoops, Marvel has plans for the big green guy. First of all, Mark Ruffalo will return to play Bruce Banner and The Hulk, but it looks like his control may have slipped some, because the storyline Marvel is looking at is “Planet Hulk.” In the comics, as well as an animated movie following the same story, the greatest heroes on earth decide The Hulk can’t be controlled and shoot him into outer space to live on an uninhibited planet. However, he crashes on a populated planet and is captured and forced to fight as a gladiator. He soon joins forces to help the beings on the planet fight for their freedom.

Imagine The Hulk playing the Russell Crowe role in “Gladiator” and you have a good idea of what this is all about. Nothing is set in stone, but it is enough to make any comic book geek excited.
