Are your children at the age where the tooth fairy makes frequent visits to your home? If so, you may want to think about making your children a tooth fairy pillow. A tooth fairy pillow has a little pocket on it that is designed to hold a child’s baby tooth. The pillow then gets hung up on the child’s door. Based on my experience, the pillows look cute and the kids seem to love them. They are also fairly simple to assemble. Here’s how:
Supplies Needed
In order to complete this project, you will need a bag of polyester stuffing, a 10 inch square of fabric, a 6 inch square of fabric, fabric paints and a pair of pinking shears. Feel free to select a color fabric that your child will adore. You’ll also need a 2 ounce bag of doll hair, a 2.5 inch wide powder puff, a hot glue gun, a piece of white felt and a roll of 1/8 inch wide satin ribbon. It is necessary to have access to basic sewing supplies and glue sticks as well. You should be able to purchase all of the previously mentioned items at a major craft store.
Create a Heart
Begin by drawing two identical heart shapes onto the 10 inch square piece of fabric. Then cut the shapes out of the fabric with the aid of your pinking shears. Keep going by placing the fabric hearts on top of each other, wrong side out. Next, partially sew the hearts together. You will want to leave a hole that is big enough to fit the batting through. Once that’s done, turn the heart inside out. Then use the 6 inch piece of fabric to create a pocket onto one side of the heart.
Decorate the Heart
Proceed by gluing the powder puff directly above the pocket. It will serve as the tooth fairy’s face. Use your fabric paints to give the tooth fairy a nose, a mouth and a pair of eyes. Next, glue the doll hair around the top of the powder puff to simulate the tooth fairy’s hair. Afterward, draw two arms onto the piece of felt and cut it out. Then glue one arm alongside each side of the tooth fairy’s face.
Once you are done creating the tooth fairy’s head and arms, feel free to add any additional embellishments to the heart. For example, you could use the fabric paint to write your child’s name onto the heart. When you are finished decorating, stuff the heart with the batting and sew it shut. Afterward, create a hanging loop out of ribbon and attach it to the top of the heart. At this point, your child’s tooth fairy pillow will be ready for use.
