Louisville Kentucky Haunted Houses Guide

Haunted Houses, Pitch Black, Waverly Hills

Louisville, Kentucky is home to a wide variety of haunted houses, though they’re often hard to discover. This guide offers all of the information you’ll need to plan visits to all of the best Louisville haunted houses.

Waverly Hills Sanatorium
Waverly Hills Sanatorium was built as a Tuberculosis hospital in the early part of the 20th century. It served as a nursing home at the end of the Tuberculosis epidemic before being closed down and condemned. After sitting empty for several decades, owners decided to open the hospital for tours and a yearly haunted house.

The haunted house at Waverly Hills consists of two parts. The first part is a typical haunted house where costumed employees jump out and scream at visitors. The second part, on the other hand, is unlike any other Louisville haunted house. Visitors to the second part of the haunted house walk through what is essentially a pitch black, silent section of the hospital. No one jumps out and boos, and the silence makes the hospital that much scarier.

Waverly Hills Sanatorium has been featured on ABC/FOX Family Channel’s “Scariest Places on Earth,” VH1’s “Celebrity Paranormal Project,” and the Sci Fi Channel’s “Ghost Hunters.” For the Waverly Hills haunted house schedule, visit online.

The Baxter Avenue Morgue
The Baxter Avenue Morgue is an old morgue in the Highlands area that is opened to the public as a haunted house around Halloween. The spookiest part of this Louisville haunted house is its location, though there’s not a lot more than goblins jumping out of closets as far as fear is concerned.

Individuals who buy their tickets for the Baxter Avenue Morgue online can opt for VIP tickets that allow them to skip the long ticket line. To buy tickets or see this year’s schedule, visit the Morgue online.

Nightmare Forest
Nightmare Forest is located in Shepherdsville, Kentucky, just outside of the Louisville city limits. It is one of the largest Louisville haunted houses, with sections of the trail spreading across 50 acres of fields and wooded areas littered with trailers and buildings that each feature a scene from a different horror story. From Freddy Krueger to the Blair Witch to Saw, Nightmare Forest has a well-rounded blend of the scariest characters of the past and present.

In 2007, the owners of Nightmare Forest opened its sister haunted house, Nightmare Harvest. Nightmare Harvest is focused on the horrors of crop circles and aliens for a different type of scare. For more information on either Nightmare Forest or Nightmare Harvest, visit the official website.

The Haunted Network
The Haunted Network is a group of Louisville haunted houses scattered throughout the metro area. Haunted houses included in the Haunted Network include the Haunted Hotel, Industrial Nightmare, Pitch Black, and Dementions.

The Haunted Hotel, located off of 4th Street in downtown Louisville, and Industrial Nightmare, located in Jeffersonville, IN, are typical haunted houses with screaming and jumping ghouls and goblins and fake blood smeared all along the walls. These two Louisville haunted houses may be the safest bet for adults that want to take their preteens out for a scare.

People visiting the Haunted Network haunted houses should keep in mind that prices of tickets to these attractions is high, lines are long, and the payoff isn’t great. You’ll likely wait two hours in line for a ten-minute walk through the haunted house. Still, if you want more information, visit the official website.
