As a doctor of optometry I am often asked about Latisse. Latisse is a new formulation of an eye drop that is used in glaucoma. Latisse promotes eyelash growth and thickening. My office manager used Latisse for just fix weeks. Below is the transcript of an interview we recently had.
Dr. W.: Why did you decide to use Latisse?
Office Manager: Well as I become older I’ve noticed a considerable change in the thickness and length of my lashes. They have become lighter in color and I’ve even had spots in the center of my eyelash line on my left lid, that had no lashes whatsoever; a bold spot if you will. I was becoming more and more self conscious and felt it was necessary to find some sort of a solution.
How often do you use the drops?
Not as often as the manufacturer recommends, for sure. I use the drops when I remember to. In the morning after my shower (when) my face is completely void of any make-up, then I do apply my make up about an hour after. The manufacturer suggests you apply every night after you take your make up off. To apply the liquid to my lashes I put a drop, sometimes two, on the brush provided and lightly wipe over the upper lash line with my eyes closed. I let any residual liquid to flow to my bottom lash so I do keep my eyes closed for about 30 seconds before I open them.
When did you first start to notice changes in your eyelashes?
I first noticed a change within the first two weeks of using Latisse. Manufactures say that the first 30 days you normally notice no change in the lashes but the second 30 days is when the change should be apparent.
What have friends and family said about your lashes since you’ve used Latisse?
All of my female family members over the age of 30 are extremely interested. They can’t believe the change and I’ve found that I would’ve never known that they had the same issue as I had I not tried the product myself and started the conversation to begin with.
What would you say to somebody who is thinking about using Latisse?
I would recommend lattice to anyone! It’s a simple way to make a big change.
Have you noticed any side effects from the drops?
The only side effect that I’ve noticed is a slight darkening around my upper lid. Nothing makeup couldn’t fix.
Do you still use mascara or other eye makeup?
I still use mascara and every time I put it on I get so excited because its like watching your lashes grow even more. I love curling my lashes then applying mascara, my lashes almost reach my brow line and that is so exciting to me.
How long do you plan on using Latisse?
I plan on using Latisse for as long as I can. Its not hard to use I just use it as part of my makeup regimen really no different then putting on mascara.
