Live on the Levee: Summer Concert Series in St. Louis

The city of St. Louis, Missouri has expanded their free concert schedule during the summer months. It is held on the Arch grounds in downtown area. If you are vacationing in the St. Louis area or just passing through, you may want to take in a concert. Many individuals like to travel to St. Louis and take in a Cardinal baseball game or visit many of major attractions in St. Louis. The free concert series, Live on the Levee, is set up for the citizens on both sides of the river. People will park their cars and then sit on the Eads Bridge, Arch grounds, or along the Levee. The concerts are set up for the entire family. At the end of each concert is a fireworks display.

Here is a schedule for this summer’s Live on the Levee activities beginning on Friday July 4th. With the exception of July 4th, all times are the same 6 to 10 pm. July 4th and 5th, Josh Stone and Anthony Hamilton. July 11th Umphrey McGee. July 12th Lonestar. July 18th O.A.R. July 19th WAR. July 25th The Black Crows. July26th One Republic. August 1st Boyz II Men and August 2nd Rusted Root.

There is K Town Kids zone. It is located near the end of Washington Avenue. A variety of activities are there for the children to enjoy.

Starting last year, the Sauce Cafe provided outdoor dining during the Live on the Levee events. It is the only place where you can enjoy a three course gourmet meal, sit outside and enjoy the live music, and watch the boats going up and down the river. The Sauce Cafe provides the best of the many different St. Louis Restaurants.

There are also many food and beverage stands set up in strategic locations throughout the area.

The fireworks start at about 9:15 in the evening and they are displayed with synchronized music provided by KEZK 102.5 FM. You can turn on your radio at any place in the St. Louis area and hear the music.

There is plenty of parking. Although, if you park in the downtown area, you can plan on paying about $8 to park. If you get there early enough, it is possible to find free parking. The reason they charge for parking is because there are many other events happening at the same time.

It is possible to park at a Metrolink station or parking lot. You can then take the Metrolink rail system to the Arch grounds. It will let you off at Laclede’s Landing on the St. Louis side. On the East side of the river, you will get off at the Casino Queen. The Metrolink runs on the underside of the Eads Bridge. The cost for the use of the Metrolink varies from $2.50 to $3.

There is about 1000 volunteers that work in the area to help make the concerts run smoothly. There is also very good Police service in the area. Portable restrooms are located at several parts of the concert area as well as local establishments

There are some rules. No alcoholic beverages are allowed to be brought onto the Arch grounds. Only service animals like Seeing Eye dogs are allowed. Leave your pets at home. For other important informations, you can find it on their website at www.celebratestlouis.org .

Fair St. Louis started in 1981 and was held in conjunction with the Fourth of July. Then in 2005 behind many requests to Mayor Slay to provide free concerts, the very first Live on the Levee was held and featured Blues Traveler.

The event is sponsored by about 50 different business. Some of the more notable sponsors are Boeing, Purina, Edward Jones, Wachovia, Anheuser Busch, AmerenUE, Maritz, and Monsanto.

Once again the entertainment is Free. So with the economy being what it is, this might be the place to bring the family this summer. Live at the Levee has something for everybody.
