Kitlers: Hitler Cats

Life can be hard when you look like Hitler. For the job applicant with an ill-advised mustache style, this problem can be easily fixed- but when you’re a kitten, finding a simple solution just isn’t that easy.

Just ask Kitler, an adorable black-and-white female kitten who was recently born in the UK. She’s sweet, playful, and affectionate, but just can’t seem to find a loving home. Why? Kitler was unfortunate enough to be born with markings strikingly similar to those of the late and not-so-great dictator Adolf Hitler. Her black “mustache” has caused her many hardships, making young Kitler a subject of misfortune and discrimination from day one.

Kitler was found abandoned, starving, and near death on a roadside near Bedfordshire last month, and was promptly taken in and nursed back to health by the Wood Green animal shelter. ‘We think Kitler was either dumped by someone who didn’t want her or couldn’t look after her or she could have been a wild cat who was left by her mother,” states spokeswoman Tara Dundon.

Despite the shelter being able to find homes for five and a half thousand animals each year, Kitler has been passed over time and time again, and is still looking for a loving family- all because of her markings. “We think her unusual markings are putting people off,” Tara said.
Interestingly, though, Kitler isn’t the only one of her kind. In fact, there is an entire website devoted to furry feline fuhrers- CatsThatLookLikeHitler.com. It updates several times a week with new cat photos, all submitted by the website’s users. But don’t worry, CTLLH doesn’t support racism or genocide in any sense! In fact, the website owner has been quoted as saying, “Let’s get this straight. Hitler was an a**hole. … I think it’s entirely appropriate to reduce him to an object of ridicule by comparing his physical appearance and styling to a bunch of fluffy, cute moggies.” The website simply supports the appreciation of these oft-derided, oddly-patterned cats- “kitlers. A lighthearted piece of dark and wacky humor, it is usually just another witty and entertaining source of funny cat photos and stories.

But CTLLH.com occasionally goes beyond mere humor. From time to time, the website has raised enough publicity to rescue sick, homeless, or injured cats that have been featured on its website. Take, for example, its latest attempt to rescue a cat named Felix, a homeless NY cat that was “on death row” this May. Due to his difficulty in finding a home, Felix was going to be put to sleep- but after being discovered by CTLLH, he was pulled from “death row”. However, rumor has it that he is still looking for a home. Nonetheless, it truly warms the heart to think that even the “internet hate machine” can spread some love in the case of these poor feline misfits, giving us hope that, in spite of her unconventional appearance, Kitler may find a loving home, after all- thanks to the online phenomenon of kitlers.
