When I can afford it, I like to buy quality kitchen utensils. KitchenAid is very expensive at my local grocery store, but they also have a two for one special about every other month – and that’s when I stock up.
This KitchenAid spatula is a very heavy duty utensil that should last forever. It is 11″ long, and is mostly black with some chrome on the handle. It proudly displays the round chrome KitchenAid trade mark at the top. There is a 1/2″ hole as well, so you can hang it up if you don’t want your utensils sitting in a drawer.
The one drawback about this spatula is the fact that it is so heavy duty. The width of the handle is 1″, and it is completely round (and hollow inside). This makes for a bulky utensil if you like to store them in a utensil holder that sits on your countertop. I do store some of my utensils this way, but a few are just too large and take up too much space, such as this KitchenAid spatula. On the other hand, the large handle is great for easy gripping, especially if you have arthritis in your hands.
The 3 1/2″ x 2″ head is curved perfectly to get every drop of cake batter (or whatever you are cooking with) out of the bowl. There won’t be much left for the kids (or you) to lick!!

Using The KitchenAid Spatula
I used to have a drawer full of melted spatulas. Have you ever touched your plastic spatula to a hot pan, which resulted with the dreaded melted grooves in the handle? I have, several times. I have also had spatulas that have melted on me while cooking. (I know, they were pretty cheap!). The KitchenAid scraper portion of this spatula is made of silicone, and the handle is a very hard plastic, and neither of them will melt. I’ve had this for nearly a year, and it looks as nice now as the day I bought it!
Another annoying thing about spatulas is that when they are gooey (with batter or whatever you are cooking with) and you need to sit them down, they get the mess all over the counter. The spatulas with the narrow flat handles are especially notorious for this. Since the KitchenAid’s handle is so fat (remember it clogged up my utensil holder?) that it keeps the silicone scraper portion from touching the counter. This prevents messy clean ups.
The silicone scraper is also quite flexible, and easy to use, and trust me, food will not stick to it! Cooked egg is especially messy to clean up, and if you leave any egg on a spatula and then throw it in the dishwasher, sometimes they come out with the egg baked on. This won’t happen with the KitchenAid, because the silicone scraper really does a superb job of letting the food slide right off, and most times I don’t even have to rinse it off before sticking it in the dishwasher.
One last beef about cheap spatulas. I have had the misfortune of having the head slide off the handle! When this happens, it is really irritating, and I have to get my hands messy to put it back together. The KitchenAid appears to be one continual piece – I cannot even remove the head from the handle if I try! This is really well made.
Final Thoughts
I firmly believe in that old saying you get what you pay for. KitchenAid is more expensive than some other brands, but I do not regret paying the extra money to get a good quality product. I can’t imagine this spatula wearing out on me.
