Kinky-Curly Gloss Pomade: Hair Care Product Review

Kinky, Kinky Hair, Pomade

Awhile back I purchased a leave-in conditioner by the Kinky-Curly company. I loved how soft and manageable it made my hair so I decided to buy the Kinky Curly Gloss Pomade because it was recommended for smoothing the edges of relaxed hair or just adding moisture.

When the pomade arrived to my house I was completely unimpressed because the jar was so small. After reading the ingredients which contains avocado, borage, black currant, jojoba, pomegranate, soybean, safflower, meadowfoam, and lemon oils I felt better since I realized that it didn’t contain heavy ingredients like petroleum or mineral oil which a ton of pomades and styling creams targeted toward the African American community contain. Petroleum and mineral oils only weighed my hair down and never really moisturized it so I felt a bit better about my Kinky-Curly Pomade purchase.

After opening the small tin the smell of the lemon oil immediately hit my nose and gave the pomade a fresh clean scent. When I looked at the pomade I noticed that it didn’t look like a cream or a gel, and to me it resembled a lemon Italian ice because it looked so well whipped.

When I wiped my finger across the pomade it felt like an oil but it didn’t feel heavy or extremely greasy. After applying it to my hair it absorbed quickly and I didn’t have to keep rubbing it in and my hands didn’t feel oily afterwards.

The Kinky-Curly pomade is extremely light and a small dab of it won’t weigh your hair down. So I love to use it when I wear my straight and hanging down because it moisturizes my ends and gives my hair great shine but it doesn’t leave my hair feeling limp. I also use the pomade when I put my hair into a ponytail because it gives my hair shine but it doesn’t make my ponytail look oily and it keeps it looking bouncy.

I also love to use the pomade to help smooth down the edges of my hair line when my roots start to grow in after I’ve relaxed my hair. It doesn’t make my edges lay down since it’s so light so I use a hair gel to do that, but the pomade does help to prevent the gel from getting crispy and making my hair look hard.

If you’re looking for serious moisture this pomade won’t give that to you because it is so light. My hair is so thick that the pomade does nothing for it when it’s really dry and thirsty for moisture. But I don’t regret buying the pomade because it really comes in great handy when I need extra shine, texture, and moisture and other hair products are too heavy.

All in all I think the pomade is really great and I don’t think it should be heavier or more moisturizing than it is. I think that if hair is really dry it should be conditioned properly so there shouldn’t be a need to throw heavy hair greases on your scalp and hair because it only clogs the hair follicles and makes your hair look dull and heavy. So I take full responsibility for my dry hair and would love to get to a point where I only need this pomade to make my hair feel healthy and moisturized.

I give it 5 out 5 stars, it’s the first pomade I’ve tried that marketed towards people with kinky hair that isn’t heavy. It makes hair look healthy and even though it comes in a small tin it lasts for awhile.
