Mother’s Day Cards: Teddy Bear Card

Draw a teddy bear on a white piece of paper. Give your Mother’s Day bear a round head, straight legs and arms sticking out at angles, and a square body. Draw any other features such as the snout, the nose and mouth, the eyes, the ears and a bow tie. Have your child color this, personalize it and cut it out. Fold in the legs and arms so the teddy bear Mother’s Day card can sit up on its own. My son gave me a card like this with messages such as “Happy Mother’s Day,” “From Your Little Bear,” and an acronym of mother which read “My One To Hug Everyday Regularly.” I loved this card so much that I gave it a permanent place of honor in the washcloth basket on my bathroom counter, so I could see it every day when I was getting washed up.

Mother’s Day Cards: Flower Pot Card

This is a fairly simple Mother’s Day card, but it never fails to please. Cut out a flower pot from brown construction paper. Cut out a flower from any desired color, and a green leaf from another piece of construction paper. Glue the flower and leaf to the back of the top portion of the brown paper flower pot. If your child is old enough, have them complete these steps. Then have the child inscribe the card to their mother with their name on the front.

Mother’s Day Cards: Coupon Card

First, design a simple template for you Mother’s Day coupon card. You can do this easily on your computer with a word processing program. Be sure to design everything in black and white lines, so that your kids can color it later. Select the font you like, then type out “Happy Mother’s Day” on the template. Then add a picture, such as a potted flower or a coffee cup. There are many sites online where you can find free clip-art for your card. Also, many word processing programs and image processing programs come with clip art. Also be sure that each template you design is double the length of the finished card, so you will be able to fold it over later.

Design the coupons which will go on the inside of the coupon book. Create coupons for free hugs and kisses, taking out the garbage, vacuuming, helping with laundry, etc. Print the coupon book, and let your kids color it. Then cut out the sections and use a hole punch to put a hole in the folded end. Tie your coupons together with a ribbon or a piece of yarn.

Mother’s Day Cards: Butterfly Card

To create this Mother’s Day card, take two pieces of construction paper in any two colors. Fold both pieces of construction paper together, nesting them inside each other. Draw half a butterfly on one piece of construction paper, keeping the butterfly’s “body” by the fold. Have the kids cut out the butterfly from both pieces of paper.

Let the kids do as many of the next steps as possible. Fold over one of the pieces of paper, and draw a smaller butterfly half on it, and cut it out. Glue the larger of the two butterfly pieces to the front of the Mother’s Day card, the smaller piece to the back. Write a special Mother’s Day message on the inside of the card.
