One of the more popular “haunted” tales revolve around the idea of a gravity hill; a place where gravity has no meaning. Those stories are interesting, as too are the roads in Indiana haunted by children.
The Chapman Road area in Fort Wayne is known as a gravity hill, or a place where gravity doesn’t apply. People who park on the small hill and place their car in neutral or park will have their car pushed back uphill, as if someone is standing there pushing it.
Another gravity hill is in Mooresville, Indiana. When you park your car at the bottom of the hill and put your car in neutral, something will force your car back up the hill. Local legend claims that a woman and her son were driving down the road and parked at the bottom of the hill to fix their flat tire. The two were killed when a car came down over the hill and hit them. Their ghosts are supposedly what pushes you back up the hill.
Yet another gravity hill is located in Westville. At the bottom of a hill you can park your car, put it in neutral, and feel you car moving back up the hill. This is attributed to a bus full of schoolchildren who were killed on a nearby railroad track.
In Bobtown, Indiana a haunted gravel road is known to locals as the Coffin. Legend claims that a police officer arrived there in the 1960’s to break up a party. The teenagers killed the man and hid him in an old tree. People now claim to see the man’s eyes glowing in the tree. The road is also supposed to be so dark that you can’t see anything, even with your headlights on.
Dunkirk’s Blood Road, also known as County Road 700, has an interesting story. A local farmer grew annoyed with his son because the boy would jump out of their truck while it was moving down the road. He tied a chain under his son and attached it to the truck. When the truck hit a bump in the road, the boy fell out.
The man couldn’t hear his son’s screams over the roar of the engine, and continued to drive for another two miles with his son dragging behind. People claim that if you drive the same route the man took, you’ll see a blood trail leading down the road following the same path the truck once took.
In Fishers you need to look for a dip in Allisonville Road near 126th Street, known by locals as Heady Hollow. Legend claims that a group of children died when their school caught fire. People claim that the ghosts of the dead kids stand in the middle of the road on fogging nights. A number of people have seen the kids there.
Georgetown has a haunted road known as the devil’s dip. A little girl was playing in this dip and died when she was hit by a car. Those who have traveled down the road late at night see the ghost of the girl playing on the side of the road.
Post Road in Indianapolis is where you’ll find your car turning off and being unable to restart it. Supposedly a group of kids died here when their bus crashed into a tree. A bus of kids were killed on the train tracks on Devils Road in Jasper. The driver of the bus survived, but killed himself on the tracks. People report feeling the kids push their car off the tracks, and seeing the ghost of a headless man walking along the tracks.
A group of local teenagers used to enjoy hanging out in an old pickup truck on Muckshaw Road in Marshall, Indiana. The truck crashed on the side of the road, killing all the teens inside. A number of people traveling down the road claim to see the same truck full of teenagers chasing them down the street. On County Road 18 in Middlebury, an Amish man was killed when he was struck by a passing car. The man can sometimes be seen walking along the side of the road.
In New Albany you can see the ghost of JR Hays on a local road. The boy was killed on Corydon Pike on his way home from school. At the exact time when he died people report hearing tires squealing, a little boy crying, and seeing a phantom pickup truck.
Lastly check out Portland’s Boundary Pike Road is haunted by a mother and son. The two were walking across the street when they were killed by a passing motorist. Many people have seen the two running across the road.
