Willows Springs Cavallones – A former bar run by Al Capone himself for prostitution and gambling. Is now a Pizzeria/bar. It is said the place is still haunted by its former gang members and prostitutes. Their have been proven pictures taken and odd sound recordings in which the apparition make themselves known.
Watseka’s Lantern Road – Reports of lights coming straight at people and leaving burn marks across their cars.
Watseka’s Vennum House – Bears connections with the Watseka’s Manor. It was rumored back in the 1800’s when a young girl at 13 named Lurancy Vennum began falling into episodes of catatonic trances. She claimed she could communicate with the angels and dead spirits. This would occur several times a day and last from minutes to hours. Each time she spoke in different voices about places she had never encountered. When she would wake, she would have no recollection of the things she had said or done. Soon the family became fallen in the realization their was no help for their daughter other then to send her to an asylum to get proper treatment. Before they could a man came to them claiming his daughter had the same condition as Vennums and that he concerned himself with whether the girls fate in an asylum would be as fatal as his own daughters. It would soon become apparent that the little girl was in fact possessed by the mans deceased daughter. This story can be found at the prairie ghosts website. It is also rumored a movie is to be made off this occurrence.
Warren County’s Dead Mans Curve – A few miles east of Monmouth, on highway 34, their is a curve famous for its accidents. At the center point of the curve their is a tree in which many cars have hit. It is said sometimes the tree can be swaying when their is no wind as if it were trying to cause an accident.
Vernun Hills Big Bear Lake – A young girl was killed and thrown into the lake, it is said you can sometimes see baby hands in the lake because at the time she was having a baby.
Watseka’s Manor – It is said the mansion is haunted by a demon. The rumor was the girl Mary who had been sent to an asylum and died after being possessed had lived their. “who was the girl that possessed the vennums daughter later on.”
Rock Island’s The Villa – In the early 1900’s the Villa was a school for girls, kinda like dorms. The rumor is at this catholic school the priests would have sex with the nuns. When the nuns would become pregnant they would take the babies straight out of the womb and Barrie them within the walls of the school. They said if you went by at night you could hear the aborted baby’s pounding on the walls to get free. The place burned down in July 2005.
