iCam is a video and audio streaming application that allows users to stream the feed off of their own computer’s webcams. Users need to download an application for the computer (available for free from the developers) and install it on the computer. The application runs on both Mac and Windows. Upon starting the installation, users need to provide details for use such as the ID and password. Once done, access the application on the iPhone, provide the unique ID and password, and simply sit back and view the feed from the webcam on your phone screen.
The video may be streamed through the internet, which makes it really cool. Streaming may also be done through a Wide Area Network (WAN), a 3G network, and even EDGE. Streaming over EDGE may be a bit slow, but it still does the job.
One great feature with this application is the ability to watch four streaming videos at once. iCam supports up to four cameras, splitting the screen into four sections. To view just one feed, simply tap on that section and the video feed will be displayed full screen.
The application also has push support integrated with motion detection. This means that whenever the camera ‘senses’ any motion within its field of view, users receive a notification informing them of the movement. This feature has customizable sensitivity settings that may be modified through the phone or on the computer.
Now, the application can experience a bit of lag, especially if viewed through slower networks such as EDGE. Apart from that, there is not much to complain about with the iCam. The application is very well made and very simple to use. Even the file that needs to be installed on the computer is very easy to set up.
