Hysteria and the Absence of Intelligent Discourse

The mouth frothing hysteria in the American political discourse really kicked into high gear when the Oklahoma bombing ripped a chunk into the lives of many; irresponsible, empty headed broadcasters began lamenting the ‘Arabs’ and ‘the Muslims’ and there was much gnashing of teeth and fire and brimstone among average Americans.

Then it turned out that the bomber was a blond little blue eyed American; the hysteria and rhetoric came to a complete stop and became ‘oh, it’s just one white guy and his accomplice, well, then we’re safe.

Then 9/11 happened and mouth frothing, hysteria of many Americans exploded around the globe and this time, it was those damn Arabs and those crazy Muslims! It’s been a very quick spiralling into a dark pit of all consuming hatred, blood thirst and madness, resulting in the deaths of tens of thousands of innocent Afghans, Iraqis and now the crazies want to attack Iran. As if 1.4 billion Muslims attacked America in 2001, instead of 19 murderers. Why do they hate us, you were asking; when the answer is horrifying and shows how guilty and culpable the American government in creating the hatred which lead to 9/11, the reaction is raging hysteria rather than sober contemplation and demanding changes to foreign policy in the Mideast.

No matter what, the reaction is enraged, blinding hysteria.

Facts are met with name calling and vicious character attacks, history is met with absurd labels of ‘Jew hater’, as if the Jews are not simply a community of fallible human beings but, holy angels made of butterfly wings and God dust. The most amusing are those that use the term ‘anti-Semite’ without any clue as to the meaning of the term and no awareness of how trained they are to yelp that garbage at the mildest criticism of Israel or American foreign policy in Arabia.
All legitimate and credible information is met with mind screeching hysteria and rage; this is how humans react when their false belief system is challenged because it means they must re-examine and dismantle their set of world views and this makes some very angry.

Blindness and hypocrisy become the rule; hatred of Arabs and Muslims is acceptable but, anyone who expresses anger at America is should be ashamed of themselves. Anyone pointing out the fact that Israel is the leading cause for the attacks on 9/11 is subjected to screeching, clawing hysteria by people who have not one single clue or fact clunking around in their empty heads, all they have is antiquated, useless information about Hitler and the propaganda they’re spoon fed by pro-Israeli lobby groups like AIPAC and Christian Fundamentalists like John Hagee and his ilk. The laughable hypocrisy that is not funny at all, is the hysterical will then claim to have the keys to the truth based on their ‘feelings’ or their ‘faith’ or their ‘religious text’, ask if they can define any of the terminology regarding the Middle East and they become angry and lash out, ask if they can recite the history of Palestine and they become enraged, introduce facts about the systemic stealing of land and wealth of Palestinians Christians and Muslims by Israel and giving to foreign Jews and they change the subject.

Intelligent people will experience temporary hysteria and then come back to their senses and remember the facts but, vapid, stupid people will just keep getting whipped up into further manic and crazed states of hysteria until it consumes them completely. Hysteria clouds judgement and prevents reasoning and calm thought; soon the crazy person will find themselves caught on a rollercoaster ride of insanity, hate, rage, vengeance, attacks and blindness.

The only cure is to breathe; stop and breathe and fill your mind with facts, credible books, take responsibility for your own disasters and start again from the beginning.

Intelligent discourse and reasoning are always the first causalities of hysteria.

Thankfully, I have the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas and opinions daily with Americans who are intelligent, thoughtful, kind and looking for real solutions and real change.
