Hyland’s Natural Calendula Spray Review

Chafing

My husband and I both have sensitive skin. Mine is dry and itchy, and he suffers from eczema, and both of our conditions get much worse during the dry winter months.

Calendula Spray was recommended to use for dry skin, but I had never heard of it before. Oh, I know that calendula is an all natural (marigold) plant, and I have lotions that contain calendula as one of many other ingredients, but I didn’t know that you could buy a calendula spray!

Description

This product is made by Hyland’s, and it comes in a plastic spray bottle, containing 4 ounces. It is a non-aerosol, pump style bottle, and the label on the front reads “Minor Skin Irritations”.

The Hyland’s website describes their Calendula Spray this way: There are few things worse than the pain of a sunburn or trying to rub an ointment onto a cut or scrape. Rather than try to touch your skin when it is most sensitive, we have created Calendula Spray so you can benefit from the healing power of Calendula without enduring agonizing pain of applying it. Calendula Spray is an extract of Calendula in a base of glycerin – so it doesn’t sting when it is applied to the affected area.

Thoughts

This spray is used for external use only, and is great for a variety of skin conditions and irritations. In the winter months I always get chafing between my legs (especially when exercising), my hands get very dry and cracked, and even the sides of my mouth get those small extremely sore cracks that are so hard to heal.

My skin is also very sensitive to mosquito bites, when I get bit the area swells up and gets extremely itchy, but the Hyland’s Calendula Spray does a good job of healing the areas, and it doesn’t sting when it’s applied because it does not contain any alcohol.

Another use I can tell you about is for minor wounds. I had some work done at my dermatologists office a couple of months ago, and was left with some scabbing on my face. I was afraid I’d be left with scars, but the spray helped heal the area and the scars are slowly fading. I’m sure it will take time, but nothing else has worked for me.

Hyland’s Calendula Spray is so versatile, it makes an excellent addition to any medicine chest or first aid kit! It’s also available in a 1 ounce spray size, which will fit about anywhere. It can be used to heal and soothe chafing, wind burns, heat burns, cuts, dry skin, scratches, sunburn, insect bites, scalp conditions, eczema, minor wounds, and other such problems.

When you apply the spray, it has an immediate cooling and soothing sensation, which is very comforting. Sometimes rubbing the affected area can cause more irritation, so this spray works wonders as you don’t have to touch the area, just spray, and it is still absorbed quite wll into the skin because of the moisturizing effect of the glycerine.

There are no side effects, no harmful preservatives or ingredients, and Hyland’s does not test on animals! As an animal lover, this is important to me as well.

Have you ever had your children fight you when you want to put medication on their “owies”? Well, it’s probably because at one time or another they experienced stinging or burning with an ointment or rub, so give this a try on your kids – they won’t be afraid any longer!

If you do a google search on the healing powers of Calendula, you might be really surprised by what this plant can do for you! I found the most information on a site called “ageless.co.za”, and this is what they had to say about using Calendula externally:

It is used to treat conjunctivitis, eczema, yeast infections, herpes, gingivitis, ringworm, athlete’s foot, varicose veins, and other minor injuries and skin problems.

Calendula is beneficial in the treatment of nappy (diaper) rash and cradle cap in babies, and sore nipples in nursing mothers.

In cases of slow-healing wounds, as well as burns, eczema, hemorrhoids and dry skin, it is most effective.

It is ideal in for dry, dehydrated, irritated and delicate skin as the saponins and mucilage has humectant properties.

Due to the presence of carotenoids in its chemical composition, it has great re-epithelizing properties – making it ideal for general healing, wound healing, eczemas as well as fighting the signs of aging.

The presence of essential oil and salicylic acid gives it an antimicrobial and anti-oxidizing action, which results in an antiseptic action great for any infections, including acne.

Ingredients

68% water, 22% calendula, and 10% glycerine.

Closing Recommendation

Hyland’s Calendula Spray seems to almost be a medicine chest in a bottle! I love having it on hand, and have found it even works well for our little dog when she occasionally gets those dry hot spots on her skin. I wouldn’t be without it!
