Hybrid Animals: What’s This World Coming To?

I was surfing the web the other day in disbelief. I could not believe my eyes. This stuff had to be fake. Then Last night on the Discovery channel I seen it, Hybrid Animals. I have to say, whats next? For those of you wondering whats a Hybrid animal, be prepared for what I am about to introduce to you.

The definition of Hybrid animal per Wikipedia is an offspring of two different species of animals. Although most are created under human authority some, like the wolphin are found in the wild.

With that out of the way I for one would like to state this is crazy. They are artificially inseminated. They started doing this to see if they can make a better stronger lion and tiger.

In the wild a tiger can run up to 35 miles per hour but because of their large size (usually around 450 pounds) they can only last a few second. Lions only catch their pray around 30% of the time. Often there pray out runs them. Lions are about the same. A lion and tigers size and their ability to run are almost identical. So would combining the two actually make a better animal? The answer is simple, No. Thats what I tend to believe anyway.

Not all animals can be crossbred. The two animals must have the same number of chromosomes and belong to the same genus. In my opinion give it all some time and they will try other things. They get the hybrid animals names from the parents. Usually the format is to place the male parents half name first and the females last. So if they use a male lion and a female tiger it would be called a liger.

From what I can gather they have crossbred quite a few animals. They have crossbred a lion and a tiger, dog and a wolf, wild boar and a domestic tams worth pig, horse and a zebra, camel and a llama, polar bear and a grizzly bear, leopard and a lion, false killer whale and a dolphin. Some of the hybrid animals have hybrid animals among them.

Hybrid animals are thought to be sterile. With more research they have come to find out that this is not always the case. While most are sterile, some are not. This has resulted in the few Hybrid among hybrid.

Hybrid animals often resemble both their mother and their father. There are two wolphins(false killer whale, dolphin) at the sea life park . There bodies look like both the false killer whale and the dolphin. False killer whales have 44 teeth and a dolphin has 88 teeth. The wolphin has 66 teeth. So it shares traits from both parents.

While the hybrid animals are very pretty looking, I don’t think this is a very good idea. the largest liger who is only 3 years olds already weighs half a ton. Just think, hes still got growing to do. His name is Hercules and he lives at the Miami zoo. I would be scared if i came across a wild tiger or lion. Could you imagine the feeling of running across a liger. No thank you
