How to Turn a Walk-In Closet into a Dressing Room

Dressing Room

Those with dozens of pairs of shoes and racks upon racks of clothes could use a dressing room instead of just a walk-in closet. If the space is large enough, it is possible to create a dressing room with the addition of modular organizers and a few other additions. I do not specialize in organizing, but I helped a client turn her walk-in closet into an amazing spaces for trying on and changing clothes, shoes and more. It was already beautifully organized. I went in and made the most of the remaining space.

Add a Window and Quality Overhead Lighting

My client had a narrow bare wall in her large walk-in closet. It was cutout from the exterior by a large closet in the foyer. The bare area was just large enough for a hexagon shaped window. To maintain privacy she selected a stained glass. The south facing window allowed plenty of light to filter in, but she still needed proper lighting for evening use. The walk-in closet was equipped with an ordinary ceiling fixture, and it did nothing for the style of the closet, and it was not designed to illuminate every corner. We chose a dressing room fixture that was longer and more appropriate, and it included energy efficient LED lights that beautifully illuminated the space.

Mount Mirrors in a Walk-In Closet to Turn it into a Dressing Room

To turn a walk-in closet into a fully functional dressing room, the space would need at least one mirror. The closet door was bare. My client and I went on a shopping excursion, and I had her choose a full length mirror that would fit the inside of the door. Wall space was suddenly lacking, and I had to find another mirror that could be used in conjunction with the mirror on the door. I found a stylish mirror with an adjustable arm, and it would allow my client to view her appearance from every angle.

Place a Comfortable Storage Bench in the Center

When a walk-in closet offers plenty of floor space, do not let it go to waste. Turn the storage space into a fully functioning dressing room by adding a comfortable storage bench. A chair is not enough. Articles of clothing such as fabric belts, hats or other items can be stored inside of a bench. The bench will provide a comfy place to sit down and put on hosiery, shoes and more.

The simple additions to my client’s walk-in closet beautifully transformed it into the dressing room that she had always wanted. Even with the added storage bench, the dressing room was still quite roomy. With the added light and mirrors, it looked larger than ever. What was once a storage space became a new room, and it served a valuable purpose for my client while adding value and appeal to her home.
