How to Stage a Makeup Display

Permanent Makeup

Selling makeup is easy if you have an attractive display ready for potential customers to see. An attractive makeup display can help you promote a special theme or introduce clients to a new product line. Learn how to stage a makeup display and get ready for top sales at home parties, trade shows or in a store. If setting up a permanent makeup display, swap out your products occasionally to keep repeat customers interested in your cosmetics.

Selecting Products

The first step in staging a makeup display is to choose the products you want to feature. If your display area is relatively large, consider creating cluster displays or an entire product line. If your display area is small then choose one product or just a few to show off. Other factors you should consider when selecting product to feature are upcoming holidays or changing of the seasons. New products and limited edition cosmetics are exciting to show and see too.

Picking Equipment

There is more to knowing how to stage a makeup display than just putting the goods on a table. Start with choosing a sturdy table or countertop. Shop around beforehand to find display equipment that will make your products look top notch. Clear acrylic lipstick holders or tiered plastic stands make good tools to use. A tiered display is more attractive to shoppers than a flat one. If you can’t afford plastic display stands use wooden blocks or sturdy cardboard boxes. You’ll hide these with fabric anyway. Test your makeup on the equipment to verify that the products will look nice and will not break or fall.

Choose a Fabric

Next, choose fabrics or extras to use with your product. A theme gives you a place to start. Avoid selecting table fabrics that will overpower what you are trying to sell. Buys patterns or bright neon colors may make shoppers cringe instead of drawing interest. For example, sell red lipsticks before Valentine’s Day using a white or black solid fabric. The red lipstick will stand out against the white or black background where it may be lost with a red color. Buy fabric that is large enough to cover the display table attractively without looking overdone. Do not buy heavy fabrics like velvet that look stiff or will not settle well around the tiers.

Arrange the Goodies

Position tier boxes in the center of the table or wherever you decided to display them. Cover the tiered boxes with the fabric. Arrange the fabric around the varying height boxes. Place your displays on the tiers, and then place your products on the displays. Position flat decorative marbles around the table. Other items you can use to decorate the table with are candles and silver trays. Open the color products but cover them with plastic shields to keep busy fingers from touching them.

Play with your display until you have the look you want. Remember to keep the makeup, not the extras the star of the show.
