How to Make the Perfect Long Island Iced Tea

Long Island Iced Tea

Have you ever been to Chili’s, Outback, Applebee’s, or even your favorite local bar and had a delicious Long Island Iced Tea? My favorite place in the world to get one is from Chili’s. I often longed to have more than one or two but they are around five dollars each, so that can make the ticket quite a bit higher than some people would want it. Therefore, I always limited myself to two of them on special occasions when my husband took me out to dinner.

On one of our anniversaries my husband took me to Chili’s for our special dinner. I ordered my first Long Island Iced Tea right away. It wasn’t long before I was ready for my second. They were absolutely the best that I had ever tasted. So I asked the bartender how to make The Perfect Long Island Iced Tea. To my surprise he gave me the recipe that the restaurants use.

Today, I would like to share with you how to make The Perfect Long Island Iced Tea. To begin with, you obviously need to know a little bit about alcohol to be able to choose the right ones.

Grab a shot glass and get busy pouring. First you add a shot of Gin. I prefer it not be the extra dry Gin. Second you add a shot of Rum. Be careful here you do not want spiced rum like you would get with Captain Morgan. You just need plain rum. Third you add a shot of Vodka. Vodka brands are just a personal choice as there are many out there. Then you add a shot of Triple Sec. Your final shot will be Sweet and Sour. It is non-alcoholic but that is where the perfect blend of taste comes in.

Now that you have mixed it all together, get your glasses ready. I suggest using a normal size drinking glass otherwise it will be too weak or strong depending on the size you use. Fill you glasses up with ice. Then add one shot of the alcohol mixture to each glass of ice. Yes this will make five drinks.

Here is where it gets a little tricky, there is actually no tea in a Long Island Iced Tea. It is actually Coca-cola that is used to finish filling the glass. Pour the cola slowly so that it is an easy blend and the bottom is clearer than the top.

To top off any good drink, you must add a Maraschino Cherry to the drink. A drink just isn’t a drink unless it is topped with a cherry. Of course, you must have a straw also. You simply can’t leave the straw out because most people known that the alcohol hits you quicker when drinking through a straw.

The price to purchase all of the ingredients is around fifty to sixty dollars. That may sound kind of pricey, but that is about what you would pay for eight Long Island Iced Teas if you went out with friends and ordered them. The difference is, with this recipe you only used one shot of each bottle. There is plenty more where that came from. With the amount of each alcohol in a bottle you can probably make around one hundred Long Island Iced Teas. That is if you do not have totally alcoholic friends that run behind you taking shots straight out of the bottles.

So next time you want to have a party, make it a Long Island Iced Tea party. Go ahead and invite all of those friends that you have that drink like fish. Tell them it is ten dollars per person and that will go towards the price of the alcohol. When in reality unless they really can drink like fish, you stand to make your money back from the price of the alcohol AND you get paid a little to clean up the mess that you know is going to be left behind.
