How to Make Money Advertising by Turning Yourself into a Human Billboard

During my one-hour commute to work the other week I grumbled about the rise in gasoline prices. As I drove along the freeway I brainstormed for ways I could offset the costs.

That’s when I noticed a car with an company logo on its rear. Perhaps this is could be a way to earn money for gas.

I eventually ended up with a list of ways you can make money advertising for others. And you only have to do the things you normally do.

Here is how you can make money advertising for others:

Wrap your car. You can wrap your car in corporate advertisements. Sites such as MyFreeCar.com offers free sponsored cars for two years or pay drivers up to $400 a month to drive their own wrapped vehicles.

Bumper stickers. If you can’t commit to plastering a company’s name all over your car, try bumper stickers. This will allow you to advertise for a small business as the costs of bumper stickers are low. Place a bumper sticker or two on your car and you’re ready to go. If you’re working with a small company, offer to carry business cards so if someone asks you questions while you’re out you can direct them to the right person to answer their questions.

Wear a company t-shirt. If you wear t-shirts while at the gym, playing sports or running errands, wear one with a company’s name or logo. If you build an advertising agreement with a company that doesn’t have a designed t-shirt, make one yourself. Put the business’s Web site on it so people can refer to it later. Keep a visual record by taking a quick photo of yourself with your camera or phone while you’re out and about.

Place a sign on your lawn. Lawn signs aren’t only dedicated to home for sale signs. You can advertise for the local bakery, day care or lawn care service. It might be costly for you to make a quality sign, but you could put one up for a business if they have one available.

Sell space in your forum signature. If you’re an active member of a forum, try selling space in your signature. Each time you post on the forum the company name and/or Web site will appear. Get paid for the number of posts you make showing your signature. This works especially well with forums related to the type of business you’re advertising. For example if you post on a local forum, you could have a link to a local auto shop’s web site in your signature. It helps if you’re a satisfied customer yourself so you can share information if asked.

Tattoo yourself. While not recommended it’s an option for the very bold. Two years ago two people took that bold step. Kari Smith of Utah tattooed “GoldenPalace.com,” the Web site of an online casino, on her forehead for $10,000 toward her son’s college education. Joe Tamargo of New York had “PillDaddy.com,” an ad for a California pharmaceutical company, tattooed on his right arm for $500 and “Save Martha! It’s a good thing. SaveMartha.com” tattooed on the same arm for $510.

Whichever method(s) you choose you can make money advertising for others while doing your every day activities.
