How to Make Homemade Spaghetti Sauce

There’s nothing better than homemade spaghetti sauce. That junk that comes in a jar is disgusting. Eww. Anyway, if you want to know how to make a vat of amazing spaghetti sauce, check out this recipe. You will totally dig it.

Here’s what you’re going to need:

½ lb. of hamburger meat

½ lb. of Italian sausage

2 eight oz. cans of tomato sauce

1 six oz. can of tomato paste

Six oz. of water (use the can from the tomato paste)

Garlic powder to taste

Onion powder to taste

Season salt to taste

Salt and pepper to taste

Dash of sugar

Oregano to taste

1: Get yourself a nice, big pot and spray it generously with non-stick cooking spray. Set your fire to a medium high setting and brown the meat and the sausage together. I personally season the meat with the above mentioned dry ingredients as it cooks. It totally enhances the flavor of the meat.

2: After the meat is cooked, make sure and drain the grease off of it. There’s nothing worse than a greasy sauce. After the meat is good and drained, return it to the pot.

3: So now you have your meat in the pot, turn your heat back on to a medium-low setting. Next, add both cans of tomato sauce, the can of tomato paste, oregano, sugar, and one can of water. Stir until the paste is no longer lumpy and you have a nice, robust looking sauce.

The next thing you’re going to want to do is hit the sauce with some more seasonings. Use your garlic powder, onion powder, season salt, salt and pepper, dash of sugar and the oregano. Like I said, it’s to taste. I like more of a garlic flavor so I use quite a bit of the garlic powder. Just add any amount you feel comfortable with and taste as you add.

4: Now that you have the sauce on and seasoned, reduce your fire to a low setting and put a lid on it. Just let it hang out there and simmer. The longer you let it simmer, the better it’s going to taste. I would simmer it at least a good three hours. Just keep an eye on it and make sure you stir and taste often. You can always add more seasonings if you want and you can also add small amounts of water if you feel that your sauce is too thick.

5: Now that the sauce is simmered and your starting to feel some hunger pangs, it’s time to boil the noodles. Obviously you’re comfortable with cooking the noodles so I’ll skip all that. If you’re not, you can read the back of the box.

6: After the noodles are cooked to perfection and drained, put the pot of noodles back on the stove and turn the fire on low. Add two TBSP. of real butter, and get yourself a nice spoonful of the sauce you just cooked and mix all of that in with the spaghetti noodles. Why? Because the butter and the sauce will coat the noodles and when you top it off with the sauce the noodles will actually absorb the sauce rather than have the sauce slide off the noodles. This is a very important step.

7: The last step is the easiest. Put some of the treated noodles on your plate, top with the awesome sauce that you just made, and enjoy.
