Dried Flowers, Homemade Bath Salts, Rock Salt

There are many ways to display dried flowers. From pressing and framing to displaying in pretty vases, they can be used to add color and beauty to the home. Blooms such as statice, strawflowers, and baby’s breath displayed in bottles of oil are strikingly beautiful and highly unique. Try this easy way to make decorative bottles filled with dried flowers and oil, and create a lovely and highly unique display. They make fantastic gifts too.

Necessary Supplies to Make Bottles of Blooms in Oil

To make bottles of flowers in oil you will need baby oil or mineral oil, a clear bottle with a tight-fitting lid, super glue, a long skewer, colored electrical tape, and dried flowers. Items other than flowers can also be used to enhance the display. Consider adding dried, interesting bits of potpourri, pretty pebbles, real or faux gems, or any other eye-catching odds and ends to the bottles.

Before beginning, test dyed potpourri or other items for colorfastness. Pour a little oil into a small container, and place the items inside. If the dye leaches into the oil, they cannot be used to make bottles of flowers. Also, use only items that will not deteriorate.

Procedure

Begin by comparing the lengths of the dried flowers to the bottles. If necessary, trim the stems. Add pebbles or any other desired embellishments. Next, arrange the flowers inside the bottles. To make this easier, use long skewers or something similar. Fill the bottles with the oil of choice to completely cover the flowers, and apply super glue to the threads of the bottles before tightly capping them. Surround the lids and the area just below the lids with electrical tape in colors that coordinate with the beautiful embellishments inside. This will give the bottlenecks a more finished look.

Additional Ideas for Bottles of Beautiful Flowers

Bottles of flowers in oil make beautiful gifts. Consider filling two bottles – one with oil and flowers, and the other with dried flower heads and decorative salt. Use the same style of bottle for both projects, and secure the tops with the same tape color using the aforementioned directions. Eye-catching containers of flowers in salt are a great accompaniment to those containing oil.

To create a bottle filled with decorative salt and flower heads, add ordinary white or colored rock salt. The article entitled Homemade Bath Salts in a Jar provides easy instructions on how to color rock salt. Although bottles used to hold decorative salt will not be opened or used, this provides excellent information on how to color the salt.

After the salt is colored and completely dry, fill the bottle three-fourths from the top. Break off small dried flower heads, and using a wooden skewer, push the flower heads around the inside of the bottle where they can be seen. The bottles make a beautiful decorative set that can be given as a gift and enjoyed for many years to come.
