How to Make a Unicorn Costume

If you’d like to make a simple costume for your little girl, you can make a unicorn costume. It may sound like it is difficult, but it is not difficult at all. In fact, the instructions for this costume are even easier than the video from which the idea came and come from personal experience of making easy costumes.

You will need the follow items:

A sweat suit of a single color such as white, lavender, pink, or light blue

Sequins, glitter paints, and other pretty decorative clothing item

A party hat

Strands of shiny ribbon, making sure one color is gold or silver (take your kid along for measurements)

A hot glue gun or fabric tack

Scissors

Pink construction paper (optional)

Find a sweat suit (or even just an outfit that you are okay with decorating) and paint it or glue decorations on it so it is pretty like a unicorn. Follow all instructions on the fabric paints. Make sure that you let the paint dry. Then make sure you heat set the paint if you don’t want it to wash off of the fabric.

Optional: Before using the ribbon, if you get curling ribbon, curl the ribbon by gently pressing it over one of the blades of a pair of scissors and pulling the ribbon.

Next, you need the party hat and the ribbon. Wrap the gold or silver ribbon around the very top of the party hat so the unicorn has a gold or silver horn. Then, decorate the party hat if the color or decoration on it is not what is wanted. This can be done by gluing ribbons, sequins, and fake jewels to the hat.

If you want ears for the unicorn, cut them out of the pink construction paper. Then glue the ears to the hat so they stick up like a horse’s ears. You probably want to put them on the hat at an angle so they stick out and look like horses ears. You can cover the fact that they are just on the back of the hat by gluing other decorations on the top, but horses do not have their ears hidden, so it is completely your decision.

To continue making a unicorn costume, glue ribbon to the rear (seat) of the pants to give your unicorn a tail. Make sure that you cut the lengths of ribbon so they are not longer than the knees in order to keep your little unicorn from tripping.

You can use any extra ribbon on the back of the party hat in order to make the unicorn’s mane.

Pass this along and your children will be glad that you taught them how to make a unicorn costume because they will be able to make this for themselves as they get older and to make it for their own children once they are adults.
