How to Make a Multi-level Business Work for You

Multi Level Marketing, Pyramid Schemes

I challenge you to do a general search for “work at home.” You will find thousands of “too good to be true” offers. You are promised nearly instantaneous wealth. You are promised a program that will give you multiple streams of income forever – all for a reduced rate of just $39.95!! You are promised books and cd’s that will show you down the path to riches. Are these offers real? How do you keep from being scammed? More importantly, how do you make the legitimate offers work for you? Most of these truly are too good to be true.

Companies that work through a multi-level marketing business plan really can work for you. Multi-level marketing companies essentially pay through commissions. You are paid something for products if you sell them. You are encouraged to sign up people to sell “under you,” and you are paid a commission based on what they sell. Depending on the company, you will receive commissions for sales made many levels down. Unlike pyramid schemes, the commission for bottom rung on the ladder person is not dependant on anyone but himself. If you work a multi-level marketing business right, you have the potential to earn much more than the person who signed you up. If you do the work, you can earn your millions of dollars over time. You probably will not “get rich quick,” nor will it necessarily be easy. Follow these steps to make this your full-time job:

1) Research the company. Make sure the company is selling real products. It would be a good idea for you to actually purchase some products yourself. Unless you can sell toothpicks to beavers, you need to be completely sold on a product if you expect to sell it to others. Research the method of payment. If possible, talk with some others who are working with the company already.

2) Realize that this essentially is a sales job. You need to actively sell your product to friends, family, and even strangers. Some tactics include cold calling through the phone book, standing in the mall handing out literature to strangers, and mass sending out post cards.

3) Recruit, recruit, recruit!! Statistically speaking, the more people you talk with, the more people will buy. Not everyone will buy, of course… However, if you speak with, say 100 people a week, you are guaranteed to make some sales. How many will depend on how good you are at presenting your product.

4) Never rest on your laurels. Statistically speaking, not everyone who buys one product will buy something else. Sometimes you will find someone who buys something from you every month for a year and then drops out. Sometimes you will find someone who will buy something every month for 5 years. Occasionally, you will find someone who will not just buy, but who will be dedicated to selling and making money just like you. Occasionally, your sellers will drop out. Do not get discouraged – this is normal for a sales job.

5) Keep your name and your company in the forefront. Most people won’t buy something after having seen it once. However, after seeing it 3 times, 5 times, 8 times… the likelihood of gaining business increases dramatically the more familiar people are with the products you wish to sell.

Multi-level marketing requires a lot of hard work. However, it does have the potential to bring in a lot of cash. If you think this is something for you, go for it! Don’t be afraid of failure.
