How to Get Rid of Tiny Flies

Cider Vinegar

Tiny flies invade a house for a number of reasons, but in any case they are annoying. They are attracted to overripe fruit, but they end up in trash cans and even in bags of bread and other food left open just seconds. Tiny flies are often slower than the usual house fly, but they can still be elusive and hard to kill the conventional way. Try the following easy ways to get rid of tiny flies in the house, and trap them instead of using a flyswatter that has holes too large to effectively kill them. Let a homemade liquid trap do the work.

Use Apple Cider Vinegar to Get Rid of Tiny Flies

Apple cider vinegar is not enticing to people, but tiny flies love it. Get rid of tiny flies in the house by creating a liquid deathtrap. Fill a shallow bowl approximately halfway with apple cider vinegar, and add a drop or two of liquid dish soap. Stir it around, and set it in a location in the house where tiny flies are most prevalent. In time they will begin landing on the edge of the bowl. They will eventually try to sample the apple cider vinegar, but they will fall into the trap instead. The tiny flies will not be able to get out, and they will drown in the apple cider vinegar and soap mixture. The soap will thicken the mixture and make it too slick to make it out of the liquid trap.

If apple cider vinegar is not on hand, use a little wine instead. Fill a shallow bowl partway with wine of any variety, and add a little fruit such as a bit of smashed banana. This will make the trap even more enticing. Make sure the banana is beneath the liquid to prevent tiny flies from using it as a way to get out. Add a couple of drops of liquid dish soap to make the trap even more effective, and place the bowl in a location where tiny flies are known to hang out. Within a few minutes they will find the liquid lunch and begin falling into the trap. They will not be able to get out before drowning.

Get Rid of Tiny Flies with a Juice Trap

If wine or apple cider vinegar is not readily available, make a juice trap instead. Get rid of tiny flies in the house by filling a shallow bowl partway with apple juice, orange juice, or another variety. Add a little smashed overripe fruit for good measure and a drop or two of liquid dish soap. The fruit should not be heaped over the surface of the juice. A little is all it takes. The tiny flies that once invaded the house will begin finding the juice, and they will fall in and drown within minutes.
