“Vintage clothing is a term for garments hailing from another era. Generally speaking, clothing older than 25 years is considered to be vintage, though opinions vary on this definition. Many sellers of vintage clothing consider even more modern pieces to be ‘vintage’, provided that they are particularly representative of the era in which they were made. For example, the very simple slip dresses that emerged in the early 1990s as an expression of the impact of minimalism and grunge aesthetics on fashion would be considered ‘vintage’ by many collectors and sellers of vintage clothing.

The best places to find vintage clothes at the cheapest prices are at garage sales, flea markets and thrift stores like Goodwill. But finding the clothing that way takes work. You’ll have to search through a lot of junk to find a gem. If you don’t have that type of patience or time, and if you know where to look, on-line is an excellent option. Much of the vintage clothes available on-line are expensive. But there are stores that offer vintage clothes at an affordable price.
The best thing about vintage is that it is not restrictive-you can pair a 50’s era capelet with a white t-shirt and jeans from GAP or Urban Outfitters, and it works.
eBay – eBay calls itself the “The World’s On-line Marketplace” where people can post their new or used items for sale. These items can be had by sale to the highest bidder, bought through the “Buy It Now” feature, or can be obtained in other ways. The deals on eBay are substantial. Just type the words “vintage clothing” in the search box and enjoy the results.
