How I Wound Up on Etsy’s Front Page

Etsy

If you’re a fellow Etsian you know being featured on the front page is a big deal. It’s like everyone looks at the featured artists in awe and say, “You have been chosen! You are the chosen ones!” Or maybe they just say, “Wow, that’s cool you got featured. Congrats.”

If you’re not really familiar with Etsy, let me explain to you the significance of being featured on the front page. I know I had to for my family.

What’s The Big Deal About The Front Page?

Etsy is the largest online marketplace for handmade and vintage goods. Etsy has a robust and thriving community of sellers and buyers who love interacting in the Etsy marketplace. The Etsy admin choose user curated collections of Etsy sellers’ items, called treasuries, and feature them on the front page.

These items then get hundreds of views, which means they gain new fans of their artwork, and maybe even an influx of sales.

Being on the front page can be a big money maker or at least a confidence boost for the seller.

What Made My Item Front Page Worthy

I started my Etsy shop, Pieces of Elise’s, in July 2010. It started off at a slow crawl, since I was a complete Etsy novice.

Over time I have learned the importance of using trending tags and keywords in my items’ titles and descriptions. For my paper doll dad magnet that was featured the important keywords were “dad” and “father’s day. It’s June, the month of Father’s day, and Etsy admin like to feature treasuries that go along with the month’s themes and celebrations.

Secondly, I have been working on taking better pictures of my items. Billy, my featured paper doll, was pictured against a white background. Having a crisp picture against a white background is popular among sellers who get featured on the front page.

If you’re an Etsy seller who dreams of having those 60 minutes of fame, just keep improving your shop and tags. I have a lot of work still to be done. Having such great reactions to my paper doll has just given me the boost I need to keep trucking and work towards my goal of working for myself.
