Pemberton, Root Beer, Sparkling Water

Sodas can be purchased in many flavors and brands at almost all grocery stores and gas stations. They are consumed in large quantities daily by the worlds population. When enjoying a good soda, have you ever wanted to make your own? Well you can make your own sodas right there in your own kitchen. Many classic flavors like Cola, Root Beer and Ginger Ale can be made from home.

Follow the recipes below and you can produce your own sodas for your next get-together. These sodas are a sure way to “Wow” your guests.

Root Beer:

History- Philadelphia pharmacist Charles Hires, discovered the recipe for Root Beer and sold the first commercial root beer to the public in 1876 at the Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition.

This recipe will yield one batch of classic Root Beer soda.

Ingredients you will need:

1 ts Dry yeast

1/2 c. Warm water

2 c. Granulated sugar

1 qt. Hot water

4 ts. Root beer extract

To make the Root Beer soda dissolve yeast in the warm water. Now dissolve the sugar in the hot water. Mix together the dissolved yeast, dissolved sugar and root beer extract in a gallon jar. Fill the jar with warm water and stir until all the ingredients are mix well together. Cover the jar and set in the warm sun for at least 4 hours. The soda will be ready to drink the next day. Chill the Root Beer and serve.

Cola:

History-Doctor John Pemberton was a pharmacist from Atlanta, Georgia. In 1886 Dr. John Pemberton invented Coca Cola and served the first Coca Cola at the soda fountain in Jacob’s Pharmacy in Atlanta.

This recipe will produce a cola flavored soda that is very close to the flavor of the name brand “Coke.

Recipe will yield you one cup of cola soda. So make sure to double or triple the recipe to fit how much you are trying to produce.

Ingredients you will need:

2 Tablespoons Sugar

1 teaspoon Vanilla

1/4 teaspoon Cinnamon

1 teaspoon Bottled Lime Juice

1 Cup Club Soda

Mix all the ingredients together and pour over ice. The look of the soda will look different than regular cola but the taste is similar. You can vary the lime juice and amount

of sugar to fit your taste.

Ginger Ale:

History- The first ginger ales were created in Ireland around 1851. The modern version of ginger ale was the Canada Dry Ginger Ale created in 1907 by John McLaughlin.

Ingredients you will need:

3 1/2 cups water

4 inch long piece of ginger, peeled and chopped

2 Tbsp Vanilla extract

3 tsp lemon extract

1/2 tsp stevia powder

1 cup sparkling water or club soda per glass

You will need to boil down the ginger in water for 10 minutes. Now strain the ginger pieces and pour the ginger juice into a jar. Add the vanilla and lemon extracts and stevia. Allow to cool then store in the refrigerator as a concentrated syrup. To drink just pour 1/8 to 1/4 cup of syrup into 6-8 oz of sparkling water or club soda. Serve over ice.
