homemade father's day gifts

For the most part, dads aren’t like moms: Keeping and displaying every scrap of scribble their kids make for Father’s Day, birthdays, every day. When it comes to homemade gifts for Father’s Day – what’s a kid (and a mom) to do?

Don’t fret, here are a few homemade Father’s Day gift ideas that are easy on the budget and easy to make.

Homemade Father’s Day Gift: Quick and Easy Picture Frame

If Dad has a desk – at home or at work – he would probably actually like a homemade picture frame (with photo) from the kids.

Grab your favorite pic and some cardboard. Cut a frame to the right size to hold the picture and let the kids decorate. Decorate the frame in Dad’s favorite colors or in his favorite sports team colors.

Don’t throw on girlie sequins or rhinestones or you run the risk of never seeing this picture frame on Dad’s desk.

Use tape to secure the pic to frame, then cover with a piece of cardboard the same size as the frame front. Use a glue stick to glue the two cardboard piece together.

If Dad has a metal desk, you can put craft magnets on the back or glue a piece of yarn to act as a hanger.

Homemade Father’s Day Gift: Coupons

Kids can design, draw and color paper coupons for Dad. They could say things such as “Good for a night out with Mom,” “Good for a nap,” “Good for choice of DVD rental.” Be creative and choose some goodies that Dad will really like.

Homemade Father’s Day Gift: iPod Sock

My daughter used a piece of blue fleece fabric and my sewing machine to whip up a quick and easy fabric bag for my husband’s iPod. He wanted something that would protect his iPod from being scratched or damaged..

We cut the fabric to fit then folded it and sewed it on two sides.

Quick, simple and useful.

Homemade Father’s Day Gift: No Sew Pillow

What Dad doesn’t love a good nap?

Make him an easy Father’s Day pillow to go along with his snooze. Use an old throw pillow or buy a pillow form from a craft or fabric store. Cut two equal piece of fleece fabric roughly 16 inches wider and longer than the pillow form. Put the form in between the two fleece pieces then tie all four corners.

For a nice touch, let the kids dip a hand into some fabric paint and press hand prints onto the pillow.

These homemade Father’s Day gifts need very few materials and are easy to make. The best part – Dad might actually use them!
