Homemade Bridal Shower Invitation: Tied with a Bow
One very cute bridal shower invitation you can make at home is a crafty card that is tied with a bow on the front. These invitations are best if you are hand-delivering them, because otherwise they will need extra postage because they are too thick to be machine-sorted. All you will need is cardstock, a craft knife, and pieces of ribbon anywhere from 1/8 inch to 1/2 inch thick.
To make the invitation, start with a piece of cardstock folded in half like a card. With a craft knife (on a surface that won’t scratch, like a cutting board), cut two small slits of the same width as the ribbon in the center of space where the writing will go, approximately ½ inch apart. Then feed your ribbon through them, coming into the center of the card from the back, and then going out the other slit.
After you are done writing the info for the bridal shower inside the card, fold it closed and bring the ribbon ends around to the front of the card, tying them together in a pretty bow. Then you can write a title on the front of the card if you would like, or just leave it blank, which will be very elegant. For this invitation, you will be making a wedding cake and a flower out of cutout paper. You need a piece of cardstock that is a neutral color for the background (not white), and then some white cardstock to make a cake, and a colored cardstock to make a flower (and another color, or extra of the card color, if you want your flower to have a center).
The inside of the invitation can have text printed on it, either by hand, by gluing a printed thing in it, or by running the invitations through the printer. The front is where you will be getting crafty. Lay out all your invitations on a table, and count how many there are. Then start by cutting many rectangles out of your cake paper in two sizes, and when you have those, glue them on the fronts of the cards in a two-tiered cake.
