Homedics QRM 400 Massage Cushion Review

Shiatsu

I am actually sitting in my Homedics QRM 400 massage cushion at the moment. You can take this in two manners: that I am biased or that I really like my new back massager. Anyway, it is the holiday season again and some of you may be considering whether or not to buy this gadget. The Homedics QRM 400 costs about $100, depending on where you buy it. Homedics makes other massage cushions, but this older model seems to be one of the most popular. So, the question is what does the Homedics QRM 400 offer and is it worth it?

First off, when you hear “cushion”, you think pillow, right? Well, the Homedics QRM 400 is not your average cushion. The Homedics QRM 400 actually weighs about 20lbs. The thing arrives in a box so big that it is intimidating. The actual set up of the thing is easy though. There is just one screw to attach and the tiny Allen wrench is even included. You can strap the Homedics QRM 400 cushion to just about any chair using Velcro straps. The straight, hard-backed chair type seems most suitable for this massager. The Homedics QRM 400 has a sleek, leather design which you will probably find nice and unobtrusive. There are adjustable rollers that can be set to various body types and positions. The whole mechanism runs on a remote control and you have two massage options: roller and shiatsu. After 15 minutes of massage, the Homedics QRM 400 automatically shuts off.

As I said, I am sitting in my massager right now so obviously I am happy with it. The rolling massage is really nice and relaxing. However, if you are under a lot of stress, the shiatsu option is better. This option is almost brutal at time and can be painful. I like that you can adjust the roller position on the Homedics QRM 400, but the width stays put. This means that you aren’t going to be getting right into your trickiest areas. But, for $100, you are paying less than a few sessions at a professional masseuse. The thing is heavy, so don’t expect to be dragging the Homedics QRM 400 everywhere with you. Also, it makes a fairly loud whirring noise which can be irritating.

To sum it up, I’d recommend the Homedics QRM 400 to anyone with back problems or a stressful life in general. It’s cheap enough to be affordable but good enough to be effective for practical use. A back massager makes for a pretty good holiday gift idea anyway. It shows that you care about the person’s physical comfort- even if you plan on using the massager also.
