Bishop’s Lodge Resort and Spa

Bishop’s Lodge Resort and Spa. This lodge is nestled among the pink and orange foothills of Santa Fe’s Sangre de Cristo Mountains, in Little Tesuque Valley.

The Bishop’s Lodge was once the retreat of Jean Baptiste Lamy, who was a frontier cleric who became Santa Fe’s first archbishop in 1851. Bishop Larry acquired this ranch and extended hospitality to visitors. Lamy’s original gardens and chapel are still much as the Bishop left them.

The Pulitzer family later acquired the 45 acre estate and added two rambling summer homes and carriage houses. After the Pulitzers sold the property in 1918, the summerhouses became the first lodges of the new resort.

There are 111 guest accommodations in 15 separate lodges. Property features include year around horseback riding, hiking trails, children’s programs and fitness center. ShaNah Spa won the Conde Nast “Most Outstanding Spa” award in 2004.

La Fonda Inn

La Fonda. Landmark hotel is a pueblo style building with thick wood beams, latilla ceilings, carved corbelis, handcrafted chandeliers and copper lighting fixtures. La Fonda is situated on the same location as the very first inn, or “fonda,” dating back to 1607. The current La Fonda was built in 1922, in the same site as the previous inns.

In 1925 the inn was acquired by the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad. The railroad leased the inn to legendary hotelier Fred Harvey who operated it as a Harvey House Hotel for over 40 years. In 1968 the property became locally owned. .

La Fonda is located on the Historic Plaza. Several shops and galleries are located in the hotel lobby. Hotel amenities include La Playa Spa and outdoor hot tub. There is nightly dancing and entertainment at La Fiesta.

Haunted Hotel La Fonda in Santa Fe, NM

Hotel St. Francis

Hotel St. Francis. This inviting hotel is located in the rustic, historic downtown section of Santa Fe. The hotel’s origin is tied to the De Vargas hotel, which was built in the 1880’s and destroyed by fire in 1922. The owners rebuilt in 1923, joining a neighboring two story building built in 1888. Hotel St. Francis is an Early California mission style building with European flair.

The hotel was a gathering spot for politicians during the 1930’s and 940’s, when the New Mexico State Capitol was across the street. After World War II the hotel lost some of its splendor. Its location on historic Route 66 made it an affordable stop for road weary travelers. De Vargas was considered a workingman’s hotel, providing just the basics.

In 1984 the hotel was remodeled, reopening in 1986 as Hotel st. Francis. The hotel has been updated with modern amenities, including high speed Internet, business center, fitness room and gracious garden patio and outdoor dining.
