This article lists the so-called “Eight Thousanders,” the fourteen highest mountain peaks in the world, all of which have elevations exceeding 8,000 meters.
Mount Everest, the world’s highest mountain peak at 8,850 meters (29,035 feet), is 5.5 miles high. In fact, twelve of the Eight Thousanders are more than five miles tall.
The Eight Thousanders have collectively claimed the lives of 713 mountain climbers. Annapurna I, located in Nepal, is the world’s most murderous mountain with an ascent to fatality ratio of 1 to .38.
All fourteen Eight Thousanders are located within one or more of four Asian countries: China, India, Nepal, and Pakistan.
