Gordon Mote – the Gaither Vocal Band

Gordon Mote is a very devout follower of Christ and talented musician. He currently plays the keyboard and also sings for the group called The Gaither Vocal Band. Gordon was born blind but started playing the piano at the age of three. He and his wife, Kim, have three lovely children. He wrote a beautiful song for his wife called If They Could See You Through My Eyes. Some of the words to this song are: “If they could see you through my eyes, they’d know where the real beauty lies. Deep inside your heart, who you really are; if they could see you through my eyes.” I heard this song for the very first time on Daystar Television on The Gaither Gospel Hour – The Very Best of Gordon Mote. This song was very touching. Although he cannot see his wife, he can definitely feel her love.

Gordon joined the Gaither Vocal Band soon after Anthony Burger, the former keyboard player, suddenly passed away which was about three years ago. He travels with the group but also performs concerts on his own. His most recent CD is called Don’t Let Me Miss the Glory. On Gordon’s website, www.gordonmote.com, Gordon states the following about his new release. “I feel like the songs are strong,” Gordon says of his latest effort. “I feel like it’s a very encouraging album. I feel like it marries a lot of genres. If you love music, I think you’ll enjoy this record.”

I also heard Gordon sing the song I Can’t Even Walk Without You Holding My Hand. I have always liked the words and melody to this song, but for some reason when I heard him sing it, it took on a whole new meaning for me. Since Gordon is blind, he needs someone to be by his side constantly to lead him wherever he goes. This song refers to God constantly being with us and never letting us go. Hearing a blind man singing it, made me feel very emotional. The words to the chorus of this beautiful song are:

“I can’t even walk

without you holding my hand

The mountain’s too high

And the valley’s too wide

It’s down on my knees

I’ve learned how to stand

I can’t even walk

Without you holding my hand.”
