Gift Ideas for Fans of Tim Burton

Beetlejuice, Tim Burton

Tim Burton is one of the most innovative artists of our time. His German expressionist-inspired films are visually stunning and his characters quirky, memorable and unique. If you’re looking for a gift for someone who adores Tim Burton, his movies, or his graphically amazing books, here are some ideas.

Movies: Obviously dvd’s are going to be a great idea for Tim Burton fans. I had very little luck finding a box set, which would be awesome, but you can make your own “box set” by gifting several titles. Some of my favorites are The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Corpse Bride, Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure. You could easily pick one of the titles and make a gift basket with items related to ideas from the movie, art, or collectibles.

Collectibles: Tim Burton collectibles include figurines, postcards, and novelty items related to his body of work. If your recipient also likes trains, there is a Nightmare Before Christmas train set on the market. Also related to the movie The Nightmare Before Christmas are numerous dolls and action figures. There is even a Nightmare Before Christmas Monopoly set! This Toxic Boy Action Figure hits the market on December 16, 2009. An Alice in Wonderland button set would make an excellent stocking stuffer for someone anxiously awaiting Burton’s vision of the classic tale. Beetlejuice fans would love to receive an out of production Beetlejuice figurine. Tim Burton’s Stick Boy & Match Girl Note Cards and Figures Boxed Set would make a lovely gift for someone who likes stationery. A Toxic Boy Heat-Sensitive mug would be ideal for coffee lovers. Tim Burton Playing Cards would make a nice gift for those who like Burton as well as a game of poker.

Books: Tim Burton has released a number of great books that any collector would be proud to own. There are also books that have been written about the man or based on his work that would also be good for a Tim Burton bookworm. From Tim Burton, the Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy and Other Stories is a uniquely macabre collection of 23 stories about misshapen characters told only as Burton could tell them. Burton on Burton, 2nd Revised Edition, written by Tim Burton and edited by Mark Salisbury, contains first-person anecdotes about the creative influences on Burton’s work. An Oyster Boy Light-Up Journal would also make a good gift for a book lover.

Laptop and iPhone Covers: For tech-savvy Tim Burton fans, Dark Horse is taking pre-orders for Tim Burton Gelaskins for laptops and iPhones in several different colors and character themes. These won’t be available until February 2010, so they’d be great for someone for Valentine’s Day or a birthday.
