Fun Homemade Backyard Lawn Games for Parties

Bocce, Outdoor Entertainment, Outdoor Parties

Expensive store-bought games are not necessary when throwing backyard parties. Some of the most enjoyable activities are homemade using repurposed items. Adults as well as kids can have a tremendous amount of fun, even when not keeping score. Forget about buying a badminton set or one of several other typical sporting games. Set up these homemade backyard lawn games for all of your outdoor parties. They will be very popular, and everyone will have something to do.

Make an Outdoor Twister Game by Spray Painting Dots on the Lawn

Twister is a fun indoor game. It can be played at outdoor parties, but it does not work nearly as well on a lawn. Blue, yellow, green and red spray paint can be used to create a backyard Twister game that will stay in place. A mat is not required. Create spray painted dots of the appropriate size on a level area of the lawn. Once the paint dries, the games can begin. Use the original spinner. When the festivities are over, the grass can be mowed and the circles removed.

Create a Toss Game with Colored Rope and Sand Filled Bags

Lawn darts games of decades past were lots of fun, but they were really very dangerous. Countless people were injured by carelessly tossed darts, and the games are no longer available in stores. Safer homemade options can be designed for backyard parties. They can be saved and reused again and again, and the supplies will cost less than a similar ready made game.

Buy enough fluorescent yellow or orange nylon rope to create two large circles. They will form the targets that can be spaced as far apart or as close together as desired. You will also need small construction grade plastic bags, sand or dried beans and wide rubber bands and/or ribbons in two different hues. Larger bags can be used by clipping off the corners, filling them with sand and securing them with rubber bands or twist ties. Make three bags for each team.

The game is played by taking turns tossing the bags toward the rope targets. Those that make it inside the ring are awarded two points each. It is an extremely fun homemade game for parties, even when not keeping score.

Set Up a Homemade Target Ball Game

Bocce ball is a fantastic lawn game for parties, but a store bought set is not required. If you have an old set of croquet balls or even softballs, you can create a homemade bocce ball game that will keep everyone busy. Give each player two balls of different colors to toss toward a target ball. The target ball could be a tennis ball or any other type that will be easy to see in the grass. Keeping score is not necessary. Whoever comes closest to the target ball wins the round, and the game can continue as long as desired.
