Frozen Brown Rice: Trader Joe’s Frozen Brown Rice Review

Brown Rice, Freezer Burn, Trader Joes

Trader Joe’s frozen brown rice is the answer to every macrobiotic dieter’s dreams. If you have been actively participating in a macrobiotic diet, but do not have time to cook brown rice, then check out this frozen brown rice product.

I found this awesome frozen brown rice at my local Trader Joe’s store and here is what I have found.

Trader Joe’s Frozen Brown Rice Review: Price

I bought the box of frozen brown rice for $3.99. There are 6 cups of rice in the box, so you do the math.. I found the price to be reasonable since I do not have to feed a large family.

The price is also outweighed by the e convince of this product.

Trader Joe’s Frozen Brown Rice Review: Preparation

To prepare your frozen brown rice you have a few options. You can microwave it if you follow the instructions on the side of the box. I have not used this method.

Instead I opt to cook in a sauté pan that has a non stick coating.

I simply pour the rice into the pan with little spray Pam and then cook for about 7 minutes. It cooks fast and I have never had it stick to the pan.

Tip: Add frozen vegetables, like broccoli and other veggies on your macrobiotic diet, they can cook at the same time. They also will be cooked and ready to eat at the same time.

Trader Joe’s Frozen Brown Rice Review: Taste

This frozen rice tastes just about like the long cook version you are used to. In fact, it tastes the same to me. There is a nutty taste other rice. It also has that bite or chewy texture to it as well.

There is no salt in the product, so if you are using alt, then you will need to add that when cooking.

Trader Joe’s Frozen Brown Rice Review: Overall

Overall I like this product and will be buying it again and again. There are 3 bags of rice in the container, so you can open one and cook it while the others stay fresh and frozen without freezer burn.

There are 160 calories per cup and 2 cups per bag. The calories are the same a spreparing regular long cook brown rice, so that equals out.

The only thing I would change would be the price. Since the dried brown rice in bags is so cheap, it makes me feel like this is a little pricey. On the other hand it is so simple to prepare can quick to make I hate to complain about it.
